Raimondo's take on the draft of the pending Iraqi constitution. There'll be oppression and Muslim fundametalism for all! Especially the bitches!

Found this hilarious link in there as well:

They'd be better off if they just used our constitution and crossed out United States and put Iraq... Maybe take out the separation of mosque and state part. Either that or just not have one.

Maybe it translates better into Arabic (laff)

hm, not the finest constitution in the world but raimondo's take is heavily filtered by his heavy rothbardian 'libertarianism' (the scare quotes because only americans think privatising everything in sight is conducive to liberty), so even the free healthcare has him in a kind of hayekian snit about it leading to fascism.

rothbard had some great ideas, and i agree totally with his anti-war stance (in fact it was his 'libertarian manifesto' that converted me to a basically anti-war position), but in amongst the good stuff is lot of utter ideologically fundamentalist piffle. raimondo tends to echo a lot of that unfortunately.

Rothbard, you say? I'll have to investigate.

The free healthcare bit actually had him ranting about socialism at American taxpayer expense. That constitution sounds near-medieval to me. Glad I'm not a woman in Iraq, or ANYONE in Iraq for that matter.

of course, you don't hear a word about how saudi arabia's oil wealth allows it provide free healthcare for its citizens without any income tax at all.

'socialism' is just a label anyway, shorthand for 'a bunch of ideas i don't like but would find difficult to destroy with argument' (difficult because opinion polls in the US suggest a majority are quite keen on 'socialism', i.e. euro-style public healthcare and so on - hardly surprising given that US citizens pay more per capita for healthcare than anyone else on earth yet have the most inefficient healthcare in the western world with the least coverage)
