That's pretty much my take on it...Some guy in that thread wrote: Who says they don't? I'm first generation American born Chinese and most of my relatives speak English just fine, but it took a long time for some of them. Most immigrants come over poor and are barely surviving financially. Learning English isn't not exactly high on the priority list when you have a family to feed.
This perception that other cultures are "tainting" American culture is absurd. Absolutely absurd and borders on bigotry. The foundation of this country was to escape persecution from being different from another group. Their fear was religious persecution, but how much different from the mentality of assimilate or leave? You pat yourselves on the back on how much freedom you have and how great it is till you see someone trying to use the same freedoms for purposes that differ from your's. Some patriots you guys are.
