DooMer...(about your MAME)

I was planning on building a MAME over a year ago, but fell short on the funds, but now I think I have enough to get started here shortly. I want to try to mess with the roms and emulators and all that shit as least as possible. I'd like to be able to just grab a premade program that is ready to be played. Do you think it would be possible to copy your MAME folder off the computer that is in your arcade? If I was to mail you a jump drive or two, do you think you could hook me up with that? I hope I haven't made this confusing and you can understand what I'm asking...

You'd probably have to mess with mine more than if you just downloaded the front end, since I configured mine specifically to my needs. Its a little bit more than just a mame folder. I can if you want though.

Ya, I had thought about that. But your system is basically what I'm looking to build. I want the 4 player option. From what I've seen of other systems, yours is the closest to what I want. But I guess we'll see once I get started.

Yeah, It has extra buttons mainly for when I hook up my DC, XBOX, and PS2. I did have some PC games on there, and the extra buttons are useful.

Yeah I have MAME, NES, SNES, N64, Genesis, Genesis32x, and Ataria 2600. I also have the pinball buttons on the side of my CP, but I havent installed VPinball on there yet.

I dont know how much it cost to build, I never added up the costs. :paranoid: If you are asking where you can buy one, I would say ebay. But I built mine myself, and I suggest you do the same, its fun and rewarding. :icon25:

You'd still have to program your controls and stuff. I changed all my shit from the defaults so I can navigate doom's menus and what not.

If you play ALOT of games outside of emulators, then you would want to NOT use defaults.. but honestly, if you grab an IPAC its not hard to just set up a few different mappings for the "odd" games you like to play.. then just program it on the fly and off you go..

had to do that for Guilty Gear XX#R :(

good stuff from everyone

one question though: did you guys pick the name? i guess im just not big on the whole "mame" name :p

Yeah, like I said above I built it all from scratch, and made up all my artwork. I didnt want mame in my name, thats why its called MEGACADE. :icon31:

All I'm going to want to play on this is the emulator games. I want all the atari, nes, snes, sega, and arcade games. I won't be playing any games outside mamewah.

DooMer, it wouldn't be that bad if all I had to do is change the controls. How big is your folder that has everything in it?

Everything? Did you fabricate the cabinet? :paranoid: So I'm guessing the only thing you bought was the mobo and the monitor? Can you hook up a hard drive?

Also is it pretty easy to set this up? Does it have a bios-like menu or whatnot that allows you to import all games? I definately wanna pick up a cabinet for all the emus sometime... not in a real rush though. Would you say there are widely available on ebay, or do I have to rush to find them?

EDIT: lol, I think I just figured it out, you guys have pc innards in there doncha :D Then a spare beater laying around should be all you need... then you gotta find a pretty good deal on the cabinet.

Its just a computer inside an arcade cabinet. Its probably cheaper to build your own. I used this guys plans, but re designed the control panel for 4 players.

kinda like this guys, but his doesnt look as balanced.

Yeah I built the cab from scratch using slightly modified lusid plans also. If you are running old school games, a 500mhz puter would be more than enough. But since I run N64, and PC games. I have a Athlon 2000. One of my spares I had sittin around :). It's fairly easy to do, but you will need to do a LOT of reading first. This is the best place for help.

Its all scattered between 2 hard drives. I'll have to run some cat5 to it and check the size tomorrow.

I guess there wouldnt be that much to do, change the paths, and the layout. You'd have to do that stuff if you downloaded it, so you arent really saving any time configuration wise.

You wouldnt have to download the roms though, so I guess thats a ton of time saved.

Well this would be perfect for me since I love emulators but when I play them on my primary pc I usually have things to scattered and end up being short on space or have to format so then I have to start all over again. Having a dedicated machine for all the emu crap would be great. And having it look like an arcade machine adds the icing to the cake. :D tx guys, I'm prolly gonna attempt this in the winter or next year.
