I just watched it, it's a terrible description... The audience was clapping in support of Goldberg even though they hardly agreed with him... That doesnt happen often.

I do think he made a great point, though... Would we be proud of our culture if we looked at it 200 years from now? I hope not

I doubt it. Look back 200 years, are we proud of that? People then didn't believe in bathing, for one. They thought it was bad for your health.

Yes, bathing was thought to be a bad practice to some people. More in Europe actually, which was more than 200 years ago. I think his main point was that we evolve and will hardly ever be "proud" out how we lived before.

He didn't destroy him - the tone of the conversation was friendly - but Goldberg was definitely on the defensive more than we was offering suggestions. I think Stewart pointed out a key strategy of many conservatives - direct your attacks at celebrities and folks with 'false power' instead of really going after those who make the decisions in this country. Granted, culture is always an important factor (as Goldberg mentioned) but I think Stewart hit the nail on the head in his description of the whole situation.

I don't think he was on the defensive, Stewart got a comedy hard-on and started hammering on the guy from the beginning. Goldberg kind of lost his train of thought, but I dont think he got defensive. The interview really got weird when Stewart actually got serious at the end.

Yeah, the whole thing was a bit fruity. I bet they had an interesting conversation off camera.

Yeah, I would have liked to have seen more. It has to be hard to have a winning conversation with Jon Stewart if you aren't on the same comedy/sarcasm level as he is.

He has this way of breaking his guest down with comedy then pulling this seriousness thing to finish them.

Maybe on the defensive wasn't the right term, since Stewart wasn't so much disagreeing with him as suggesting he focus on other folks.

his book is titled something like 'The Hundred People Who Are Ruining America'

Goldberg argued cultural decadence and Steward argued political corruption. I don't know why they both can't be right...

Hello. This is my first post...althoug I have been lurking here for awhile....

I think Jon Stewart handled the interview very well, although I agree about the comedy hard-on - he can't resist doing that to his guests.... I felt bad for Goldberg, though...he looked as if he wanted to cry when he said that he'd just found out that Al Franken flushed his copy of the book down the crapper....

Anyway, Jon both deserved and earned his Peabody Award.

Goldberg himself is cultural dung. wtf was with that book flushing joke?
he should be slapped for making a joke as disrespectful as that.

I think it actually happened. Al Franken was one of the 100 people mentioned in the book and on his radio show he said something about tearing the book up and flushing it down the toilet...so Glodberg was saying he felt bad....

I'm sure Franken was not literally clogging the toilet w/ the book...he was just saying it as a public denouncement....
