how do you use hook in mplayer

i am kinda new 2 quake iii arena at least to playing online. the only thing i cant figure out how to do is use the hook in rail'n'hook type of games online. its not like regular, where it is a weapon you switch to, and i tried pressing about every key..

Enter these lines in the console before you connect to a server.
cl_punkbuster 1
r_showtris 1
Then connect to the server you were going to go on.
Edit: You can't let it be.

the servers names are usually things like 'hook and rail' or 'rail and rocket and hook' where you can use only the rail gun and grappling hook, but i dont know how to use the hook. it says bind mouse2 and button 5. what does that mean.. and what is button 5

You need to bind mouse2 and mouse5 to the rail and grapple:
in the console...
/bind mouse2 "weapon10"
same for the railgun, though I don't know the number of it.

He posted a command that would display the tris in the map you where in, instead of how to bind the weapons.

Thing is the only thing that would happen is the letters in the menu would have a box with a line through it and once he connected to a server that would be set back to zero...gg!
