I dont know any sites easy enuff for 8 year olds but
http://www.xbox-scene.org/
has everything ive wanted to know on it.
It has NO x-box app downloads there (cos of legal shit with M$), but the site has guides on how to *get hold* of the proggies you need.
It has great x-box n00b guides too, they have helped for me :icon25: .

Turb is one of the main men to talk to about X-Box modding etc.

If you're looking to soft-mod your box you might be out of luck without a PC. I can't remember seeing any tools for a mac, and you'd have to hotswap the hard drive for the first time hard drive unlock in order to use any tools. I've never chipped one myself, but once it's chipped I imagine you can use any'ole FTP program for mac to get what you want onto it.

I have about 8 or 9 soft-mods under my belt. 0 chipped.

Zeeko, here is some good info:

FTP you want : FlashFXP
ISO Make/patcher : Craxton
Chip of choice : Xecuter 2.3 lite/3
If you need help with how to do it here:

Softmodding not recommended if you have some legit games you would like to still play them online
Upgrade your IDE cable as it only comes with a 66, i put a 100 in mine and its so much quick loading its silly

All you need then is a tidy dashboard :)

I always warn the people I have done a soft-mod for, that they wont be able to use xbox live. So far no one I know uses it except one guy. Since he wanted a bigger HDD in his xbox I left his old one in tact after I grabbed the EEPROM off of it. He got himself an external HDD chassis, and all he has to do is swap out the drives without messing with the cables. Old drive for online, new one for everything else.

the part i am not understanding is how you upgrade the bios, it sounds like i need some special type of cable to go to the i/o port on the xbox from my computer or maybe not :) but i have to put in a modchip AND change the bios right? I don't want to softmod. and can you explain what the iso files are and what the purpose of an iso maker is? thanks!

You put it on a CD, then when you load the xbox the chip will popup saying insert bios disc or something, that's it.

jesus, what a excellent idea.

so far i need to upgrade the harddrive once i get the cash together, and i'll chuck in the better IDE cable (that i'll likely have lying around anyway)

Whatever you do, do NOT get a solderless chip. Make sure you get one that needs to be soldered in. It might be really hard to do, but if you are gonna be takin your Xbox over friends houses and whatnot, you'll need it.

Not Neccesarily true. I own 2 Xbox'es one has a Solderless Chip, the other is Soldered. The Solderless Xbox has had loads of new bits in it, including a new NTSC/PAL PSU. But anyway, I've taken it on multiple trips to and from the UK-US or UK-Canada in the Cargo hold of Planes and I've never had to reseat the chip once.

I have an Xecuter 3, unfortunatly my X-Box mobo died during the desoldering process, it was a 1.0 X-Box. I've been trying to get a v1.2-1.5 mobo from Llamma with the new PSU, but it gets costly. So right now I have a silver broken X-Box

Just tried it, seems to work faster. First load on a halo2 normal compain took 40 sec with original cable, and 10 with the new one (is that too fast?). Though I can't connet both my CD and HD due to the leads being a stupid size in the xbox.
