i didn't understand a couple things... 1. why didnt' they ever turn on the tv/radio, 2. why did those people in the cage just grab tom cruise and they didn't grab the guy who got sucked up before him? 3. howcome tom cruise's wife and family in BOSTON didn't get killed and their house was perfectly okay? WTF

1. why didnt' they ever turn on the tv/radio
All radio and TV were knocked out as each area was taken over (that was said in the movie)
2. why did those people in the cage just grab tom cruise and they didn't grab the guy who got sucked up before him?
Because Tom Cruise is an actor and he is much cooler than the no name guy who got sucked up before him.
3. howcome tom cruise's wife and family in BOSTON didn't get killed and their house was perfectly okay?
Tom cruise is insane and the aliens did not want to fuck with his family. They even gave his son a ride to boston just too make sure Tom didn't get pissed off at them.
