i've been off the biftas for 2 1/2 months (nth time of trying to give up, but this time it's for good).

tbh, i didn't smoke much before: never first thing, never at work, only about 5-6 in the evenings, and I hate smoking after meals (chew nicotinell instead - good for the teeth too).

smoking is just bad shit: stinks, makes your lungs feel like death, fills your arteries with life-threatening gunk, and fucks up your interior paintwork too after a while

best thing to do is: exercise more when you give up, which helps clear your lungs and burns off the extra calories from the inevitable increased eating, and remind yourself that it's a mug's game and a fucking expensive one at that.

Do it because you don't want charred, barely functioning lungs in the future. I don't know how accurate the data are - but it is pretty amazing as to how quickly the body begins to repait itself as soon as you quit smoking.

Replace one addiction (the smokes) with another, like working out. The endorphins released during workouts are great for beating all sorts of cravings.

Fixing to quit myself. Not for money reasons necessarily, mostly for health reasons. Been smoking for 23 years and I feel it. I kick myself in the ass almost daily for ever startiing.

feel healthier n all that ?
yes

do it

Youll still get cravings - I quit YEARS ago, and still get cravings every now and then - but its tolerable. And you might put on some weight. But its worth it..

...and scares off women.. Its such a bad fucking habit.. god knows why i (or anyone for that matter) picked it up in the first place

Marlboro - because you're going to die anyway.

I've heard that another thing that can help prevent cravings is to avoid situations/places that always involved smoking in the past. That can be tough, obviously, and you won't be able to eliminate all of those things but you might find it useful.

I don't really feel bad I started but I'd like to quit. For those of you who say it turns women off that can be true but isn't neccessarily true always and in fact can be a way to meet chicks. I've found smoking is a social activity that has in effect caused me to meet several different people. Including women.

I always wondered how anyone can stand the smell of people who smoke frequently (no offense folks) but the clothes just stink...and the yellowish teeth....bleh.

i really dont think i smell, i know smokers cant smell it but im pretty conscience about the way (and others) smell and everytime i sniff myself all i can smell is deodrant

now if i smell my fingers right after a fag then i can smell it, so i dont think i smell

the teeth i brush regulary, i know they aint pearly whites but still

Yeah that part isn't neccessarily attractive. Smelling like smoke does suck though, some people really don't like the smell. I remember I didn't when I didn't smoke but now I don't really care. Most people I know smoke though.

You'll always have nicotine cravings, always. Your brain chemistry is permanently altered, so you'll ALWAYS be an addict, but the cravings lessen.

I've just made it through my first full day of quitting Copenhagen. It's been easier than I thought, but my resolve is quite set this time. I don't want to lose teeth and get oral cancer.
Resolve is the key...

It's not that your lungs get better; it's more that they don't get worse any faster than a non-smoker's (lung function declines inevitably with age).

I've been quit for 2 months - 6 if you don't count a week off the wagon during my last set of exams. I only get cravings if I'm slightly drunk or very stressed and see someone else smoking. Then I just want to throttle them and steal their fags.

Willpower's the only real way to go; after all, you can't wear patches forever.

I’m the type of person who never got addicted, I don’t know why but it could be because I first tried smoking when I was 5, and then sparsely afterwards.

I smoke occasionally, the most I smoke is about a pack a month. I also smoke if people around me are smoking, sometimes I buy a pack when I go out and smoke it/share it.

I hate the smell, I take a shower, brush my teeth, wash my hands, almost after every smoke unless I’m drunk. The worst is having the smoking aftertaste, I cannot taste food properly and even water tastes like shit.

I still get a very good nicotine buzz/high because I don’t smoke often, usually after the first cigarette in the particular day. It’s the only reason I probably smoke, it loosens me up and it’s almost as good as weed. After the first cigarette it goes away, and then I have to wait another day of non smoking before I get it.

Sometimes I get light cravings when I see people smoking.

You start smoking and quit, then you can call me a pussy. :)

I'm thinking of getting help in the form of nicotine patches/gum this time, even though i'm against it in principle :\

im strong enough not to start smoking, regardless of peerpressure :icon32:

Ha! But not starting takes almost no willpower when you've never smoked.
The first cigarettes one smokes are in fact quite disgusting.

so actually, it requires a lot of strength to -keep- on smoking then? :icon19:
