"LONDON - President Bush said Tony Blair should not expect any special favors at this week’s Group of Eight summit despite the British prime minister’s solid support for the United States in Iraq.
Speaking on the eve of a 3-day meeting of the G-8 leaders in Gleneagles, Scotland, Bush said he did not view his relationship with Blair as “one of quid pro quo”.
“Tony Blair made decisions on what he thought was best for keeping the peace and winning the war on terror, as I did,” he told British broadcaster ITN in an interview to be shown later on Monday."
Last night they rebroadcast a 60 minutes about how the backdoor draft here in the states is resulting in people who last served in the 1960's and are now in the late 50's (one was a 4'8" little old lady) being called back into active duty. I thought it was a joke until they showed her fully suited up with her M-16. They are being forced to do this because recruiting efforts are going so shitty. Funny, our pro-military president has created a climate wherein the military cannot even get enough people volunteering for it anymore. GG Bush! Thank God we didn't let that fucking coward Kerry in there...then the military morale might have really taken a hit.

I'm curious about how he's going to handle the lack of volunteers for the military.
1) He can't enforce a draft, because of promises made in the past and strong opposition to this idea from both parties (especially from some of his closest Republican supporters).
2) Republicans in the senate are against the idea of raising wages and benefits for soldiers (to encourage enrollment) any more than is absolutely necessary.
3) Both Iraq and Afghanistan have stretched lines extremely thin, and the country is quickly running out of places to draw reserves from, having killed off military bases in Europe and Asia for some additional troops and haven drawn most reserves from state national guard stations already.
O well..

That's really quite sickening. How utterly shameful.

However, progress appeared more questionable on the issue of climate change -- which British Prime Minister Tony Blair has said is among his priorities as head of the G8 this year.....
...Bush described climate change as "a significant, long-term issue that we've got to deal with" and acknowledged that human activity is "to some extent" to blame.
The fucking idiot still doesn't want to listen to those "science nerds" about global warming.
But he repeated his opposition to the Kyoto Protocol on climate change and said the United States would not sign it or any similar deals limiting gas emissions. (Full story)
"If this (agreement expected at Gleneagles) looks like Kyoto, the answer is 'no,'" Bush said. "The Kyoto treaty would have wrecked our economy, if I can be blunt."
Here he's admitting that his country simply refuses to change its wasteful lifestyle and cut back on emissions....like it'll destroy the US if people can't buy SUVs and spend a mortgage payment filling it up with fuel. The fucking idiot thinks everyone is as rich as he is.
He clearly has no clue about the future ramifications of what is going on.
He is the
PERFECT American president, as he faithfully extols the virtues that make America shit: dumb, arrogant, unwilling to compromise unless it benefits him....and fuck the rest of the world.

More
proof of how Bush makes a concerted effort to remain clueless about the world around him.
I can't wait for the day when Blair finally grows some balls from this continuing public embarrassment - his relationship with Bush - and decides to drop a BOMB on Dubya's lap during a "dual interview". That'll be fucking funny.
You can only piss people off so long.

Scratch that. After reading
this, Blair would crash and burn right along with Bush if he opened his mouth.
I'm sure he'd love to embarrass him right now...who wouldn't when dealing with a runtish cowtard with a hyena-like laugh....but he won't. He'll take it up the ass like a good little lap dog.

“In defense of my policies, I did go to the United Nations, not only for Afghanistan, but for Iraq,” Bush said in the interview with Danish Broadcasting Corp. “And we did work with allies and we did ask people’s opinion. And we put a coalition together, of which your great country joined. And I’m thankful for your prime minister’s tough decision.”

Beleive me...if we weren't in crunch mode right now at work I'd be out there tomorrow protesting Bush's visit. Dunno what it'll accomplish when the "dissenters" are placed 17 km away from Bush but at least I could say I protested one of the most vile, evil leaders in history.

You know, I used to think that Bush was an idiot, but not an evil one - rather than he was kind of the puppet of the evil fucks around him (Karl Rove, Cheney, etc.). Now, I echo your opinion exactly. I was telling my wife yesterday how depressing it is to actually have a president that you absolutely hate. I could live with a guy who had some social or economic policies that I didn't like, but that I felt was someone trying to do the right thing. Bush, on the other hand - the way he has distanced himself from reality - it can't just be ignorance. It's arrogance...he just doesn't fucking care. gah...fuck him.

I thought he was a puppet, too. I think he's worse...he's a decent actor at playing dumb at the right time...giving himself leeway with the audience that feels sorry for the blundering idiot.
But I'm not so sure anymore. It's either all an act (the apparent retardation) or he's got serious mental issues while having a decent sway during senior staff debates in the oval office when he chooses to apply it.
At any rate...this makes him unfit as a leader....but don't tell O'Reilly that cause then he'll call me a liberal.
"One of the keys to being seen as a great leader is to be seen as a commander-in-chief," then-candidate Bush told Herskowitz. "My father had all this political capital built up when he drove the Iraqis out of Kuwait and he wasted it. If I have a chance to invade ... I'm not going to waste it. I'm going to get everything passed that I want to get passed and I'm going to have a successful presidency."
- Bush himself told the family biographer, Mickey Herskowitz, in 1999, CommonDreams reports
This indicates he's had this all planned for a long time....and was determined to carry it out and become the dictator he's always wanted to be.

Welcome to the history of politics.
I honestly feel bad that you feel bad. I can't think of what I would say if Canada was in the same position as the US and being the proverbial bull in a china shop.

Yea. I look around this country - I see all the George Bush bumper stickers and the "Support Our Troops" bumper stickers, and it disgusts me that the Republicans have made it so that people think supporting Bush IS supporting the troops. The religious right is getting a stronger foothold in this country. They are wedging their way into all sorts of public institutions (like education with the ID theory bullshit).
Shit. Balls. Fuck. Cock. Ass.

What surpises and saddens me a bit is that you NEVER hear of much dissension between the moderate Christian middle and the fundies. When was the last time you saw a thoughtful, reasonable spokesperson w/ Christian sensibilities decrying Dobson and these other fuckwits? A goodly portion of our populace would probably represent themselves as Christian to one degree or other, yet all the political power and cultural influence is concentrated with the closed-minded nutters. It's not surprising of course, but it vexes me like a motherfucker.
