GE my friends.

Rep... I thank you for introducing me to this fabulous tool but ever since, I can't let go of it and I have been spending all my time on it and not working on my other things.

Well, thanks my friend but I was just wondering...

Any of you work at Google or know anyway how they do it?
Or at that particular satellite data base?
I mean, you can enter your address and it find your place.
That is hot, very very hot.
If we can have this at our hands, free at that for the populace...
I can't imagine what the NASA Gov. Have.
HOW COME THEY HAVEN'T FOUND HIM YET?

Pete - the program you are using by Google has already been done by other companies - for example a company named Keyhole has had a program called "Earthviewer" or something like that for at least a few years now. All the data is composite satellite imagery...obviously its not real time. I don't know if they are all using one common database or not - but it wouldn't surprise me at all if they were.

IIRC, Google bought/acquired "EarthViewer" from nvidia and made it free.

There you go...I thought the google program looked awfully similar...makes sense. I was wondering how in the hell google was able to make their program so similar...

No, it was never nVidias. It was Keyhole. Keyhole licensed a version for nVidia. Google bought them and made the software free somehow.

Keyhole basically bought the rights to show off satellite and air photo databases. That's why when you go to different areas it'll say some copyright, etc.

I'm going to go out into the desert and build a giant message out of stones that says, "NO PHOTO REPRODUCTION ALLOWED WITHOUT MY CONSENT." How can they copyright something like a satellite photo? It's way different than taking a picture of a celebrity, which will always be different. It's the fucking Earth, man.

Here, I'll copyright the Universe. Think anyone has had the balls to do it? Anything in the Universe is my copyright.

Hello dear friend.
Thing is, no matter who did it as much as how they did it?
Did they go to all the munipality in the whole world and ask them for the address of each different house or what?

I was in real estate for over 8 years thinking of doing a virtual tour of the city at the time ( that was in 1987). Impressed by a virtual disk capabilities from a technology show I was attending in 1984. I saw all the potential of it but at the time it was astronomically expensive to do compare to it today.
Today we have the technology at a rebate price but still can't figure how they did it.

At the time I was a neird in the thing. If I talked about it people were looking at me but not talking...

I am part of the commodore 64, my neirdiest friend in the pc area told me at the time, believe it or not he really says this...Look what I've got..(Talking about his new commodore 64) With this you don't need anything else.

Man that make me feel old.

serious questions men:

Pete,

Whilst on the phone or in person with friends and or family, do you normally start each discussion with, "Hello dear friend..." and end with a, "Pete".

question mark

Hello dear friend
Thinking about it …You are the very first one who made me think about this.
It is quite strange, I must admit it but may be this is my way of introducing myself.
Sorry I am still not used to this replies and all and still doesn’t understand 90 per cent of all of your slangs.
But I still like this forum.

Pete,

Hello my friend. Google does this by launching a sattelite into orbit each time a user downloads Google Earth. They have approximately 1.5 million satellites already launched, with more coming all the time. This allows each user access to their very own sattelite to pan around and zoom at their free will.

Remember, Google opened their IPO at around 30 billion dollars, so they have more than enough money to do this sort of thing. =D

It's not like they are copyrighting the dirt. :dork: AFAIK, any picture can be copyrighted as long as it's original, even if it's a photo of something that doesn't change and has been photographed before.

It means alternative nickname/account, you know that already stop pretending you are some 50 year old frenchy.

If you are in fact that, I would like to see you holding a sign that says "I am a frenchy".

GN my friends
Now I am quite frosty but still I can't believe or understand a lot of what you have just posted in here.
First there are not ! million plus satellites in here or above our heads.
Second I am quite drunk so I don't remember what it was...
And thirdly...What were we talking about?
And fourthly...Can we say that....I think I just get to bed.

Thanks for all your help.
I Love you all.
Where is Doombrain's sister?
