I don't know why BBC has decided to limit the amount of time you can download it, even if it is free. Seems odd but maybe they're using this as a test for the rollout of even free media.

I know there have been plenty of reminders, but between seeing them to the time I got home and could get them, I'd forgotten all about the thing.

allofmp3.com is in a black hole, not actually'safe' under russian law.
There was a request to investigate allofmp3, and it was turned down by the russian authorities. That's all. it doesn't mean that a year down the line or so, it won't be investigated. many people seem to have mistaken this for 'allofmp3 is legal'.
Second, there are import and export controls governing media, and I doubt allofmp3's media can be legally downloaded in NA.

Looks interesting - although I'm not sure about giving my CC info to a russian mp3 site.
But I couldn't find where it said how much the music costs per song. Does it vary by song?

2 cents per MB, so about 1.50 an album. Funny thing is, I've bought quite a bit of music offline I never would have purchased without fully sampling it on that russian site.

Aye fair enough. The way I see it is that since there's no indication that allofmp3 is legal in the states, there's no reason to go there in preference to any given illicit P2P network. Having said that, the encoding options and convenience of allofmp3 may alone be worth the price.

Oh and as far as the site being "illegal," until it's proven to be such, it's legal. Now if the russian authorities determine it to be illegal and I buy music from them after the declaration, then yeah, it's illegal.
I highly doubt that I would have to pay an import tarrif on CDs I might happen to bring into the US from Russia. Downloads are no different really.
As far as I know, the DOJ hasn't declared that the site is off-limits legally to Americans either.

That site looks shady, but their justification for legality is sound. It's more or less the conclusion I've come to.
I think the question of legality is best addressed with this quote:
"Organizations like IFPI and the RIAA are doing their best to avoid any publicity when it comes to the legal services in Russia."
After those clowns got their court case thrown out in Russia, the industry has kept very quiet about them.
