Last night when I was playing BF2 online, the servers were Lagging like a bitch and I also kept hearing a Clicking sound from my PC, So I shut down the game and looked in the Event Viewer and their were about 100+ entries for these:

Warning:An error was detected on device \Device\Harddisk0\D during a paging operation.

Error:The device, \Device\Ide\IdePort0, did not respond within the timeout period.

So I rebooted, and now my box takes up to 2 mins to get past the WinXP loading screen, and when it's done the screen go's blank then to the No Signal mode then back to the log on screen. I haven't noticed any of my games/apps taking longer then normal to load either.

Specs:

WesternDigital 80gb
9800xt 256meg
1gb pc3200
xp pro

try safe mode ,check harddrive and or try to boot with xp cd then
i would check if different video card drivers may fix that.

i would go to EA website and look for others with similar problems and fixes.

also a paging error with 1 gig of ram suggests to me that your
system may have
A: harddrive is too full ..no room for paging
B: your system uses too much ram even before launching the game
C: you need to adjust your virtual memory

long load times may be windows having trouble finding space for virtual memory ..try to defrag ,scandisk and get rid of junk

Well I defraged last night ( It needed it )

I have 34.5gb free

My Virtual memory is set to 1536MB ( not really sure what that needs to be)

Running Diskchk now in safe mode.

I also started up the game to see if the problems with it are still their, and all see good now. Now it's only my system taking up to 3mins to get me to the logon screen

Done with the diskchk and nothing. Any other ideas guys?

Virtual memory I found is set right 1.5x Ram=1536
Page file is not Fragmented=1%

Trying to Find stuff online but all is good from what I'm reading.

Sure is. p4 3.0 Abit IC7

I just got done using BootVis and that seemed to help out and now the screen does not go out when loading. I used WD hard drive utility and that came up good soooo..

MY HD is set up on a IDE and not Raid :tear: Just to lazy to hook up my floppy and buy disks for it.

have you checked into some new mobo drivers or even reinstall the ones you are using.

i think i had that same problem with an intel setup before but i can't quite remember. i know it was mobo drivers that fixed the problem.

Edit Oooo that looks hard. I have never Flashed me Bios or installed some. I'll have to do my reading on it before I get up the Nerve to do it :icon25:

look for spyware or a virus.
ya upgrade or downgrade all drivers, new drivers may make things worse then better espcially when it comes to gaming.

control alt delete and see if you have way too many things running "a clue that spyware or a virus may be making your system crawl or unstable"

it's my opinion flashing a bios is a last resort , flashing is much easier now but i myself rarely do it and only when i've exhausted all eforts to fix a computer.

Well after updateing the crap out of my system: I think it's just a dieing HD: I went to PcPitstop and ran some test:

Partition format NTFS
Cluster size 4 KB
Drive label No Label
Size 76308 MB
Free space 35254 MB (46%)
Junk files 2 MB (0%)
Data fragmentation 7%
File fragmentation 1%
Uncached speed 3 MB/s (7%)

I rember last time when my HD made that clicking sound she was on her way down hill. This will be my second Western D HD this Year...Guess I'll try another Brand this time. But until then I'm still trying to save her :(

Only one shows PIO the others shwo DMA:

Is this the one I need to change back? I was reading up on it and it says I could regdeit it and change it or I could uninstall the IDE port. Hummm well it's going to be a while before I can get another HD so I really appriciate your guys help.

if you have your drive plugged into the primary channel and it's stuck in pio mode, the drive is probly buggered.

but it could be a bad cable, pins on the drive connector or just plain fucked.

i have a 60 gig drive that's stuck in pio mode(on any comp)and it's been working for a few years like that. so yours may last awhile till you get a new one.

changing into Pio wont help him at all, infact it will hinder his performance compleatly..

as it sounds, im guessing its the heads resetting htem self's witch usually means that the heads are on there way out, but Seriously though, Dont be blaming WD on that, any of the First generation 8 meg cach Hdd's ( 40, 60, 80, 100gig ) where known for it.

Anyway, i would backup the stuff you need asap, then Start looking for a replacement..

might i suggest?

it's stuck in pio, that's why performance is shitty.

yes, but suggesting him to change his drive to pio ( unless i read that wrong ) would only hinder his performance more, for pio to max out its transfer rate, it need to max out the cpu usage..

:S

Well poo,

I was really thinking of getting a 10,000rpm drive and a new mobo, because this is the 2nd time this has happened to me. 1st time was when I got Doom3 and tried to run it at it's highest setting and now with BF2 I kept it on meadaum and it still died, So I'm thinking it's more then a bad HD that causeing this.

Thanks all for imput, I will start my backups and I won't run my newer games until my new HDD comes in.

So I'm not really sure which ATA drive to get: 133 or 150..Will it make a Diff?

This is my motherBoard

EdiT: well this is what it says but this is still foreign language to me :tear: So I'm assuming that it's going to be ata 150 that I need to buy.

2nd Serial ATA RAID
- 2 channel Serial ATA 150MB/s data transfer rate with RAID function (0) via South Bridge
- 2 channel Serial ATA 150MB/s data transfer rate with RAID function (0/1) via Silicon Image PCI Chip

So I just got the new sata Maxtor 250gb 150 bla bla bla drive in :)
( Thanks AmIdY )

Wish the damn thing came with sata for dummies book. I hooked up my old dusty Floppy drive and hooked all the wires for them and the sata drive and booted into windows, I detected 130+ gb of it the told me it would make some changes to the reg to make it show more weee. It came with a CD Maxblast 4 and I'm running that right now and it looks like it is copying every fuking file from my old dieing HDD to the new one. After thats all done and I reboot will I still need to use the floppy drive since Windows has already reconized it, and is basicly
making a image of the old C:drive?

Use Abits Windows utility to flash in windows.. the things solid and works well..

same motherboard btw, and i dont have that issue.. sounds like a HD is either fucked or getting ready to die..
