Why?

Because I think watching television soap operas are sad.

If you have to watch them even when you're outside the house, it's my opinion that you're in an even sadder situation than the Young and Restless followers.

Soaps will lead to more shows. What if you're:
stuck in traffic
waiting for a plane
waiting in line
waiting for food
at work
etc.

Well that's probably where we differ. I don't even like watching tv shows when I'm at home much.

Before the good old internet came along, I spent most of my indoor time reading or hanging out with friends, or playing the occasional video game; interactive stuff. I guess reading isn't really interactive, but it's stimulating at least, which is more than I think of most tv shows.

I only watch TV when I'm bored and I typically only watch TLC, Discovery, or History. That is unless someone else wants to watch some fucking retarded reality show instead >:E

I could maybe see using my cellphone battery life for a Discovery channel show. But only if I had a much bigger screen, like a Blackberry/PDA LCD.

Regardless of content, I think the human race is to dependant and addicted to it's television. TV makes your head empty by destroying creativity. The more people watch, the more the become jargon spewing zombies.
