Turb, I know you used to be a D2 freak...How does Guild Wars compare?
I tried downloading the 'demo' but it wants me to buy an account...
$50 to buy an account directly from PlayNC!? Fuck I might as well support the middle man and get myself a fancy box.

it plays a lot like a 3d version of Diablo, although it involves more skill than just pointing and clicking (timing is real important for counterspelling and the like) and the emphasis is more on character building than itemhogging :icon14:
no random maps though

and yes, get the box. i think its ourrageous you have to pay full price for the download version - i wanted a second copy for my gf so i thought i'd just buy an extra account (since i already own the boxed version, no need for two) but theres no price difference. so now we have 2 copies
you also get 2 nice booklets about the game - a manual and a GW Lore book which is just fun to read if you're into fantasy

its a developed version of diablo i'd say...
take diablo as mario bros, then guild wars would be mario 64. Mario 64 was amazing, even though it didn't much play like the original marios... so just like that, this stands up in its own right.... and just like that, sometimes you miss the simplicity of diablo...

I think I'll give it a shot. I've built 4 almost godly level 80 characters since I started D2 and its starting to get boring again. I might try to sell my gear on ebay this time around though.

Nope. And apparently neither does Guild Wars. It keeps crashing while I try to build my character.

I am. What's weird is that the client I downloaded took about 10 minutes to download and install....but this game comes with 2 cds. Clearly I don't have all the data so I'm doing a repair install with the CD. I also grabbed the newest ATI drivers.
And wtf is up with the scratch off cdkey? I suppose someone is going to open the box, unwrap the jewel case, open it up and then write down the key?

I figured it out I think. My RAM settings were fine for everyday use but gaming pushed them too far.
My character is Grim Volant if anyone is on.

i once returned my exchanged my guild wars game because the "it was broke". When i got a second copy i realized that i still had my old cd key, meaning i had 2 accounts at the price of two.

exactly
a friend of mine once bought Tribes2, only to find out someone who worked at the store already created an account with that cdkey.
this way you're 100% sure nobody used that key before you did
also, the downloadable client streams data. so you only download what you need - if your not in region X it wont download that.,
the cd version however will install everything at once so you never have extra loading times.
they released a new patch this wednesday btw (automatically downloads and installs when you start the game, even before you're logged in) which fixes some crash bugs. might be worth a try
oh and they added rune traders \o/
