Sam Raimi’s cult classic Evil Dead series has spawned a fair few video games over recent years – and rightly so, since the subject matter is ripe for exploitation. Unfortunately it has so far been subject to the worst kind of exploitation, with previous official titles ranging from mediocre to downright awful.

In fact the best Evil Dead games have so far been the ones that are not even based on the movies, so much as inspired by them, but THQ, which continues to hold license rights for games based on the series, intends to make amends with the latest tie-in, Regeneration.

Taking the link to the movies one step further, Regeneration is billed as a spiritual successor to Evil Dead 2, continuing the story of Ash and the Necronomicon. Things have continued to go bad for the one-handed antihero, who has been tried and convicted for murder and sentenced to a maximum security institution for the criminally insane.

That particular status quo won’t last long though, because the institution’s mad Doctor Vingo is in possession of the Necronomicon and has begun using its power to develop his own hellish experimentations. Pretty soon the whole thing gets out of hand, so to speak, and it’s time for Ash to load up his shotgun, clip on his chainsaw and do what he does best.
