deepfakes

Back in December I read this Motherboard article about an open-source machine learning algorithm being used to overlay public figures' faces onto porn actresses in videos. It was still rough around the edges, but anyone with a GPU and a little deep learning knowhow can put something together in a day. Photoshopping famous people into porn videos is nothing new, but this makes it user-friendly (so long as you have an ample supply of source material to train the algorithm on). There are fake porn clips of ScarJo, T Swift, Gal Gadot, Natalie Portman, and I've even seen Mercy from Overwatch on a cosplay porn clip, which is creepy and weird. Links may be NSFW.

It only took until last week before someone made an even more user-friendly app to streamline the process, and now there's even more fake-fap material out there. Not to mention political figures being fucked about with, like the video below of Hitler's face on Argentina’s president Mauricio Macri. I've even seen one of Drumpf's face on Merkel's body (with her voice), which is hilarious. Imagine this tech combined with Adobe's new VoCo tool, which turns text into speech that sounds like whatever voice they want it to using similar machine learning algorithm wizardry. Fake news indeed.

Considering how much social media people use these days and the ample supply of photos and videos that have been uploaded to Facebook and Instagram, the natural progression of this new tech was to make porn videos of classmates and coworkers. This could be used to make fake child porn, too. I don't know how this all plays out, but I imagine chaos. :(

Porn? How about fake content as a propaganda tool to further one's questionable political motives?

I simultaneously love this shit and at the same time fear for the future of our civilization

From a technical standpoint it's pretty impressive, but yeah, you know this shit is going to be abused.

Yeah, I'm a bit non-plussed by Trans' focus on the technology's use in porn. It's far more scary when considered from a political perspective.
From public figures saying something on TV they've never actually said to the more insidious potential of police states manufacturing video evidence to convict political dissidents, I think pretty soon all video evidence is going to be inadmissible.

I agree, the implications of this is mind boggling, we won't be able to believe anything we see as far as video news/evidence is concerned, life is going to get interesting to say the least

We must have enough photos of Geoff by now to use this on him :clownboat:

People have been trying to pass the full Turing test since the 1950's, which is to fool someone through text, voice, and video, they're talking to a real person. This kind of stuff is just going to accelerate that I imagine.

I mentioned politics and even linked a video example of it. The only reason I talked about it in porn so much is because that's how the tech is being used at the moment. It definitely doesn't have anything to do with my never-ending search for more wank material. :offended:
