They also used ice axes in Captain America: Winter Soldier. They also used a figure 8 rappelling device as part of a physio harness in Breaking Bad. Hollywood seems to have a fascination with using climbing equipment for untraditional uses.

I doubt it's just climbing things, they had a barcode scanner on the bridge of the Star Trek reboot.
All they care about is what it looks like to the untrained eye, rather than authenticity. I know it looks odd, everytime I see that barcode scanner a vein pops out in my head.

I used one of those Dyson hand dryers at East Midlands Airport a few weeks ago.. they seemed just as slow as every other dryer

It’s true. They obviously want to keep the aesthetics of the original game. Tank top, braided pony tail (see trailer), duel pistols (again, see trailer). So why fall short on mammaries?
