My idea

I got this idea last night for a marketing ploy for a car company it goes like this.

The idea is to pass the car. Everyday, somone gives a car to someone else. The way it'd work is you have a special car rigged with onstar so you can track it wherever it goes and can be serviced if ever it needs to be. When someone get's the car they have to enter they're liscence # into a computer along with ssn. There's an agreement to accept that you know you won't have the car tomorrow at a certain time at which point you give the car to someone else. If you don't the car won't start!

It'll only start once a new liscence # is entered. :D

It'd be a great way for car manufacturers to market their vehicles!

I think it's just crazy enough to be good :D

Oh common why not? You don't think it'd be cool for someone to give you a car for a day to test out?

But anyone with decent credit who checks out can go and get pretty much that from a showroom anyway. Perhaps not a full day, but my parents often got machines for 5-6 hours for a 'test drive'.

Nice idea, but quickly put down over logistical concerns, I think.

Yeah I know that, this get's the driver into the car though. See a lot of dealerships try to get people over there to just sit in the car. THAT'S what they want, they don't care if you're interested or not. There's this huge thing with onstar going right now, you just go a a GM dealership and push the onstar button and there's a chance you'll win a car. They're getting everyone to go down there and push a button. Even if they aren't interested in buying! IT's just to get people to see the car up close sit in it ect... From there it's all the salesmen doing their jobs and pushing their product.

My approach brings the car to them instead of them to the car. Plus you get to actualy drive it! Do whatever you want for a day. There would of course be limitations to what you can do with the car but nothing that'd be too difficult to set up.

Chalk up another one for idiot boy.
No that's what gave me the idea. Cause the comercial is so absurd that obviously you'd never be able to do it. But with my idea you could. The car wouldn't have a key it'd just have a start button like that new toyota.

Door to door salesmen tend to be met with much hostility.

Still, nice idea.

So you are suggesting that people don't own their own car and instead they spend a few hours every day of their life trading cars with someone else?

I had one come to my door saturday morning. I was hungover and didn't even have a shirt on when I answered the door. It was some church whore talking about poverty. I should have told her that poverty will always exist to balance out the rich like Smith in the Matrix. But I didn't come up with that until AFTER she left :(

No I'm saying you can if you choose to have that vehicle for a day instead. Perhaps the person does own a car or perhaps they don't. Who knows, point is the product is getting attention. Word of mouth, alone would be neat. I'd be talking about it if I heard of something like this. all it costs them is the cars and a few modifications. They're giving away something like a thousand cars for the onstar button thing.

You guys are cold. Why would you be rude to a person working to help feed homeless people?

The licensing bit would be a logistical nightmare.

Well the car would have to be insured through the car company. The liscensing bit could be done through onstar or any other company of that type since it's what they do anyway. They must have a database of liscence #'s and the GPS would track the car 24 hours a day so you'd never lose one.

It sounds like a good idea, but I would hate to be the 30th person to get the smelly, empty gas tank, food everywhere, jalopi....it would have to be taken in every now and then

Yeah that's the idea behind the GPS, every now and then the car would have to be disabled temporarily so someone can inspect it and make sure the oil get's changed and regular maintenance. I figure it'd have to happen when someone is done with it. Perhaps the car flashing a warning or message not to give it out as it's due for maintenance. Then someone from the dealership drives out and gets it then gives it again to keep it going. The GPS would enable someone to find it and there's dealerships pretty much everywhere.
