Sales of vinyl records have outstripped digital music sales for the first time in the UK, with audiophiles spending 2.4 million pounds ($4 million) on vinyl records last week, versus the 2.1 million pounds spent on digital downloads, according to Official Charts data.

People are buying vinyl as collector's items. It's something tangible that you can display and show people versus just a digital download which you can just as easily get for free, probably easier without having to sign up for email lists and signing a dodgy DRM agreement, etc.

What obs said. Also, people don't spend money on downloading music anymore because streaming services such as Spotify and Soundcloud and whatnot.

That and you can't roll a decent biffter on an MP3.
