It probably didn't make the news in your county so you may not have heard the Australian Census this time was the first where the government did hope most people would login and fill the form out online
and last night.
The Australian Bureau of Statistics said despite 15+ million people logging in, the system would handle it. I knew better and tried this AM. Seems there's problems... Looks like most tried and the system crashed the internet
What a joke

Media says the site was hacked ...
Census: Australian Bureau of Statistics says website attacked by overseas hackers...
The Australian Bureau of Statistics says it believes a series of hacking attacks on the census website last night was part of a deliberate attempt to sabotage the national survey.

A government spokesman claimed that the hackers had inserted the question "Have you ever been convicted of a criminal offence?" into the census, and made it impossible for anyone to respond anything but "yes".

I think the website came back up a day or so ago. I didn't even check and really wasn't fussed on doing it online after the last debacle so I requested the Census paper questionnaire. The form finally arrived in the postal mail and it is now completed.
There were many concerns regards privacy as you might expect. Many people suggested, and it is true AFAIK, the government already have answers to 99% the questions they ask e.g.
"Where do you live?" - Silly buggers posted it to our address
"In what country was your Mother/Father born?" - Registry of Births/Deaths and Marriages.
"How many bedrooms at your address?" - realestate.com
Anyway, the question that made me think, I really had to pause for a while, was something like,
"Do you agree to release the information herein contained after 99 years?"
I still wonder why they asked the question because unless they discover some marvelous life extension process, I'll be long dead

* you're not always at the address you live at when the census is being held
* not all the parents who ever lived were born in australia
* don't be daft

My apologies. I thought all civilized countries* did the Census
thing...
1. True, but they posted the form to
my address so yes, i concede I may have been staying at a distance country hotel/motel, yes, even overseas

OK
2. A previous Census or a search of a registry of Births, Deaths and Marriages (*in your country) would reveal parenthood
3. I think not seremtan
