I'm afraid wheels only slow me down. I've had wheels in the past and tried to get used to them but ultimately my lap times suffer as a result of using one. Most high level competitive racers don't use a wheel either from my experience.

It's fun, don't get me wrong, but wheels involve a lot of adjusting settings and practice to get it to feel right and once you've got that it's significantly slower.

Isn't that just a case of not being used to a wheel vs having hundreds of hours of experience with a controller?

I don't think so and hundreds of hours? lol please, try thousands.

Racing games are sorta my thing, I spend a lot of time on them and as much as I tried to make use of a wheel I found that it's too slow when you need large inputs. I spent a lot of time learning to nudge the analogue stick a quarter way, half way and 3/4 when steering so I feel like I get the benefits of control a wheel would provide most users but I don't have to sacrifice movement speed to do it. It's not that I wasn't competitive with a wheel either, I'd win most of my races with one but when I measure lap times there's always a second or two difference.

Do you get some force feedback with the gyro controls? That's what makes wheels great compared to sticks. Being able to "feel" the car makes it far better for cornering quickly.

I remember those racing games you get on your phone, they're pretty good fun but you lack so much feedback as to how much you're turning the wheel etc

That sounds pretty good. I always found that even though I'd be at full lock I'd still keep rotating the phone thinking I could eek a bit more steering out of it.

Have you ever used one of those Powerball things, does the gyro provide resistance like they do?
