Military coup in Turkey

The Turkish army says it has taken power over the country and that the rule of law must remain a priority.

"The power in the country has been seized in its entirety," said a military statement read on NTV television, without giving further details.

The country’s state news agency reports that Turkey's chief of military staff, Hulusi Akar, is being “held hostage” at the military headquarters.

Hopefully this isn't some US/Saudi powerplay and they're acting independently to get rid of Erdogan and cut their ties with ISIS. It'd be a huge blow to the Wahhabist terrorists.

Turkey used to be a secular oasis in the middle east. Erdogan can fuck off with his "I like the 19th century better" bullshit.

Worst case scenario is that rather than failing swiftly, this thing draws out indefinitely and destabilizes the region further. Can you imagine if this drags on for a month and the Kurds end up declaring an independent state? :(

I'll bet Geoff's remaining testicle that Erdogan scripted all of this so he could draw more power towards himself. This isn't a victory for democracy, it's a dictator pulling his strings to secure his seat on his throne.

Exactly, the coup was a headless chicken. It was a very small and unorganized branch of the military and they had absolutely no leadership. In one swift move, Erdocunt has eliminated all of his political enemies and ensured the military is totally subservient for his plan to create a Saudi Turkey.

Welp, destroying the Nazis was an attack on democracy then.
