Metastatic cancer can be diagnosed far in advance. It's pretty likely he knew he had cancer during the entire crack ordeal. I'm not going to try and justify his actions but at the same time you'd have to wonder if perhaps he just did it as a result of knowing he was going to die anyway.

Well there was the whole news story about when they found the cancer and started treatment (surgery). He was a public figure who was being highly scrutinized so if he had been getting treatment (surgery) previously he couldn't have hid it...

Not really, there's a lot of assumptions with what you're saying. It could be just as probable that he decided to release the news of his cancer to gain some sympathy from the public seeing as he was the butt of all jokes otherwise.

Sucks that he died, I wouldn't wish cancer on anyone, but he was a fucking basket case anyway. Perhaps it's better that he's gone.

The press made him out to be a saint after his death but in reality his policies hurt a lot of people.

Sucks to say it but his family is probably better without him too going by all the domestic calls by police and the stuff that was reported about him re: his family.
