I was highly skeptical of this movie, fearing the choice for 4 women as lead characters was simply an expression of extreme political correctness, but the trailer has tuned my expectations far more positive. In the trailer at least, they seem to have hit the right tone for this movie. Am curious for the rest:

My scepticism remains resolute, but the trailer alludes to it not being quite as terrible as some of the other recent 80s reboots. I want it to be good.

Yeah my sentiment as well.

You won't hear me saying this is Oscar worthy material or will become as iconic as the originals, but I don't think it'll be a terrible movie of the trailer is anything to go by

The youtube comments are awash with chauvinism and a lot of people are going to hate the film because of the gender of the cast. It should the comedy and delivery of said comedy that'll decide whether this is good but unfortunately I think that won't be the case.

They should've just hired actors / actresses based on their merits or worked a story without worrying about gender and not made a point about it in the 1st place. Fucking stupid.

I dunno wether it's the 'lads' humour not getting carried across genders or wether it's just a really poor script but it seems very, very generic.

Edit: And way too cartoony man !, that shit with the dogs in the fridge when I was a kid freaked me the fuck right out. It took me years to watch the library scene.

I think one of the problems with these 80's movies reboots is that Hollywood thinks the orginals became iconic simply because of the script or plot of the movie, but fail to recognize other factors. Often, a movie becomes a classic also because of when it was released. The original may have been something no one had seen before or maybe just resonated with people because of how the 80's were. You can't artificially recreate that 30 years later.

I guess if you'd see the original Ghostbusters movie for the first time now, it'd feel generic and uninspired as well. Hollywood seems to target these movies at the people that grew up with the origins, ride the wave of nostalgia, you know. But those people are 30 years older now and times have changed. Ghostbusters in whatever shape or form (female cast or not) simply won't work like it did in the 80's

I disagree about Ghostbusters being generic though. I know people with kids that go mental for it. I think it was the strong characters that made the film and what this is seriously lacking.

This doesn't fit the feel of the original at all. The original's comedy was very subtle, yet perfectly executed. This movie seems to be all about the in-your-face jokes and slapstick. They're also rehashing the same jokes. Sorry, just doesn't look like its for me...

So tired of these reboots that actually turn out to be long delayed sequels.
Either reboot the universe or don't. Stop trying to tie in with the originals which don't have any relevance to the plot.
