MONTPELIER - After an afternoon of debate, the Senate voted 16-13 to advance the marijuana legalization bill on Wednesday. The Senate will vote again on Thursday before sending the bill to the House. Usually, the third reading is a perfunctory vote, but the marijuana bill will face additional floor amendments.

The bill would allow adults 21 or older to possess up to an ounce of marijuana, and create licenses for retailers and growers.

So far, the 4 states that have legalized recreational weed have done so through public referendums. Vermont may become the first state to legalize it by going through the legislature. Medical pot has been legal here for over a decade, and if this passes the House, VT will have non-medical pot shops as early as 2018. Obviously this is kind of a big deal for me since I live in Vermont, but the fact that the state is moving forward without being forced by their constituents is important for the marijuana movement in general.

I'm a commercial insurance inspector and recently I had a work order to inspect one of the biggest marijuana production facilities in the state, plus their 2 dispensaries. The hoops they have to jump through are ridiculous compared to a bar or tavern with a liquor license. Hopefully the overregulation doesn't destroy the industry before it can even get started, because it is really expensive to comply with all the regs. I can safely say that the places I inspected either met or exceeded all of the state's requirements, plus the additional layer of requirements dumped on them by their insurance providers. Meanwhile, I go to bars all the time and find little things here and there that could cause the owners to lose their license if I wanted to be a dick.

Anyway, this still has to pass the House, so I may be getting ahead of myself.

The rooms I was in weren't nearly that impressive.

Just as it looks like it might be legalized in Canada I've started cutting back. Went from 5 - 10 J's a day to roughly 1/4 J a day since Feb 1st and it hasn't bothered me in the slightest. Can't say I've noticed any changes yet, except on the wallet of course.

My record is a half ounce in one day, by myself. 14 grams = roughly 28 J's. I had a bad headache by the time I went to bed that day.

To compare, a pack of cigs, which I used to smoke a pack a day contains 24 smokes.

I honestly used to smoke far too much. I've been cutting back for a while now and I'm pretty proud of it. I figure I was spending roughly 150$ a week on weed prior to cutting back.

Fuck's sake, man, I thought I was spending a lot at $200 a month.
