He's managing to maintain a pretty steady 60k
Wondering though, are his paintings worth anything ?, I'd imagine snobbish art people wouldn't consider his work as excellent ?

Bob introduced a guest painter and the chat spammed "noooooo". Then she started painting what she called a "little indian baby" she named "One Feather" and the chat lost its collective shit.

Probably worth a bit not because they are particularly great works of art, but more for the celebrity value. It's like getting a signed album from your favourite band. His art isn't anything special, he's just very good at doing a particular subject matter considerably fast while being good at narrating his process. And he says stuff like, "We don't make mistakes, just happy little accidents."

Ironically, I bet the paintings he did on TV are worth more, even though they were intentionally rushed and he did a ton of other more elaborate paintings off air.

basically this, and he comes across as a genuinely nice guy
i haven't seen more than a dozen or so, but he seems to have cornered the market in speedy impressions of the north american wilderness that would look good on the wall of someone with no taste whatsoever, like geoff

Apparently, Bob Ross filmed his Joy of Painting show for free. He made his money selling art supplies, videos, and taught classes.
Also, he didn't sell any of his 30,000 paintings, most of them ending up in the hands of charities and PBS.

I did, and they should, but it's something about belonging to something bigger than yourself (even if completely fruitless and pointless) at that moment which apparently people find irresistable.
