Paintball

I went paintballing for the first time in my life. Anyone else did this? We had 2.5 hrs including briefing, choosing your loadout (amount of ammo, type of gun (standard, extended barrel or full-auto) and extras) and gearing up. Effective playtime was a little over an hour. That's more than enough though, it really is physically demanding.

We played 12 vs 12 in an indoor arena with gametypes like TDM, CTF, 1 flag CTF and even a Plant the Bomb gametype.

It's a great experience and lots of fun. And yeah I won't lie: unless you're a super macho marine like Geoff, getting shot definitely hurts. Afterwards I counted 13 bruises on my arms, legs and body (and I got hit twice on the head as well, ouch)

I have never tried paintball but certainly would like to :)
Adding to that 'bucket list' of mine right now.

Yes, I have heard it does hurt getting shot by the paint filled spheres but I thought there was a body armour option.... guessing it can't cover everywhere

Indoor paintball :!:
Our combat areas down here are all outside in the bush :smirk: so I'd like to hear more on the indoor variant.

Did it a few times. Outdoor is way more fun though, especially after a rainy day.
Trudging through the woods defending a fort during ctf: Most excellent.

Never thought getting shot hurt  I got shot in the neck once though, right in the little exposed bit of skin. Oops, though the worst part was getting all the paint in my mouth when it happened, yuck.

Yeah there's a body armor option but it costs additional money and it's doable without. I did go for "armored" gloves though, wouldn't want to risk getting my hands seriously hurt but in the end I didn't get hit in the hands at all.

Well, I found that the moment you get hit sure stings like a bitch IMO, but the pain is gone a second later (possibly helped by adrenaline). Did you have armor though? I didn't have any other than the mask and gloves.

I was amused by the people from the Paintball thing itself using generic FPS gaming terms for everything, like using the term "respawn" and half of my group going "Respawn? What does that mean?"

no armor, only the mask and obviously the overalls.

Funny that you should mention gloves, makes me remember that I got shot on my ringfinger as well. That did hurt and it started to swell. Awesome seeing it was the day before my wedding :owned:

I've done it a few times, it's an absolute blast. Gloves are a must, and a cup wouldn't be a bad idea.

I went paintballing as part of my cousin's bachelor's party. I don't think you need body armour, just face mask, normal gloves and overalls. There's a big difference in firepower though. The rental guns suck, and can't shoot straight so it's easy to get outgunned. I don't know how, but I was on the winning team for the majority of the matches. It was fine as long as the staff were mixing up teams.

There must have been a shift change or something, since on the last match the opposing team were all fucking pros with their own tacted out gear. Some dude had a sniper rifle with laser sights. Our team had all rentals and just a single pod of ammo each. They had backpacks full of ammo and would just spray. Our team got destroyed either by being pelted when moving between cover or by being suppressed until time ran out. The other team was just camping out on the same spot and raining terror with their infinite supply of ammo. Shitty weak way to lose.

During one of the earlier matches, there was this one pro guy on our team who pointed at my cousin and I, and mumbled a bunch of orders (we had no idea what he said, we couldn't hear him through his face mask). Next thing we see is this guy charging straight down the middle into enemy territory Rambo style and we lose sight of him. My cousin and I looked at each other shrugged. Few minutes later, we see this guy tearing down the middle again back towards us. He sees my cousin and I and mumbles more orders and runs back out again. WTF.

Yeah, i'm guessing he won't see it in that simple/fun/mates/LADSLADLSADS light. For him it's all about technical hand to hand warfare. First first person style.

My experience of paint balling has always been getting poor guns that don't shoot straight.. I've always wanted to try airsoft, looks pretty good fun.

Fogged up googles, until i used some 100% ones i have for riding. then it's just shooting wonky guns at people when you're not meant to until you're asked to leave/run out of money/get bored/time to go to the pub.

Yeh, we went in with a group of people for someone's birthday party. I think only one or two people of the group (15 people or so) had played paintball once before or so, so it was pretty new to everyone. We expected to be split up in two teams but it turned out we were matched up against another team so I was getting a bit nervous because I wondered how good these guys were. Turned out they were just as noobish as we were so it turned out to be pretty fun.

I've been a couple of times only in high school, which come to think of it is quite a long time ago now :(

They fleeced us with the "party packages" - get booked in for the afternoon, but only get enough ammo included for two matches at most! Cue pooron buddies either running around with no ammo for the last 4 games or mooching off someone who remembered to bring plenty of spending cash :) (and that additional ammo wasn't cheap either).
I don't remember seeing anyone with their own souped up guns though.

Best part was a mate who spent a fiver on a couple of "grenades" for the last match, which was in a wooded arena with huts. He made the first throw just after the buzzer went, trying to lob it all the way to the other side... bounced off a tree and exploded right next to him, so he sat out the last 15mins.

Ha! No, I don't really see the appeal to that :)
Escape rooms though, that's a lot of fun to be had.
