Don't fall for the hype future parents... Swimming is just like learning to walk or talk... Do u pay for walking and talking lessons for ur kids? Not needed for swimming... They just learn it... Usually in one day when they are ready... So unless u wanna be a gullible chump... Don't waste ur time and money on swim lessons... You're welcome...

I guess I could amend this a little...
Swim lesson may be needed for:
For ppl who are too poor to afford a pool or take their kids to a public pool repeatedly...
Ppl who live in shitty parts of the world where its too cold to swim much of the year...
Delinquent parents who don't want to spend the kind of time it takes with their children to learn to swim...
Ppl who have to work so much in order to survive hence don't have the time to go swimming...

I pay for talking lessons for mine. My three year old has been having French & mandarin lessons since she was two.
She has swimming lessons on a Thursday. She loves it.
Being able to receive instruction and learn from others is its own skill. Wish I had it when I was a kid.

I learned on my own at the river us and a bunch of other kids. Lessons? Since I didn't have any I'm not qualified to talk about their merit. My own kids learned on their own to, they all swim very well.

You said that people don't pay for talking lessons, when in fact, some people do pay for talking lessons. Also, you can pay for elocution lessons for Received Pronunciation. Popular with actors who want to learn BBC English. That's very much the definition of talking lessons.
Anyone wanting to move on in the corporate world will generally get lessons if they want to lose their regional accent, too. It's actually very common.
But seriously, let's not make every thread you post in about you and I, it's boring.

"Many of those seeking help from elocution teachers are business managers and professionals. They include
company directors, doctors,
lawyers, teachers, university lecturers, NHS managers,
barristers and even ministers of religion. Others include students and recent graduates looking for their first step on to the careers ladder, and
parents looking to help their children prepare for oral presentations and university interviews."
Nothing wrong with learning how to speak properly, Geoff, it's actually quite an art - hence why voiceover professionals get paid so much money.
But anyway, back to swimming. You don't take your daughter for swimming lessons, because everyone else is poor, and you're also better than everyone at everything. Got it, buddy

Well, it's right there in the article. Clearly people are doing it. It's pretty common practice to have speech lessons in the corporate sector. A lot of people won't admit it, but it happens.
I shot a partner for Arthur Anderson (of Enron fame) a few years ago, and he admitted to having lessons to reduce his Mancunian accent.

I remember the conversation explicitly, because it was were I "cracked" him (found a shared subject to talk about and help him relax) We were discussing my other work, and at the time, I was shooting a lot of actor's headshots, and I mentioned their RP training and how all of them wanted to sound like James Bond - he replied that he'd had elocution lessons up in Manchester before heading down to London to begin his accountancy training.
In business, a neutral accent is very helpful, especially if you're conducting business with foreign English speakers.
It's less common in politics, but very common in business.

I own three businesses and you own none. so in terms of actually running businesses, I know quite a bit.
My average monthly income is about £40,000, so I reckon I'm able to consider my business a relatively decent success, given that I only started it 7 years ago. I'm worth several million pounds on paper.
