This is a very nicely made visualization of the lives lost during the 2nd world war.
It's quite impressive to see the numbers stacked up against each other and a rather harrowing thought to see how many people died during those six years.

The USSR casualty numbers are always astounding.

good stuff, but some of the narrative was a bit off. they lumped a shitload of other countries in with the UK on the grounds that they were colonies, without mentioning them (India for example)

does the fact that the body count for the UK was almost as high as the body count for the USA (5x the population) not give you a clue?

The military deaths may be combined but I know the Indian civilian deaths was a couple of million which isn't reflected in that video.

I think 380k may be correct n all, I only found 1 source that placed the figure around 280k. Everything else is around the 400k mark with Canada, India and Australia all being seperated from UK.

It is worth considering the UK was in the war for longer, was already mobilised and was closer to the action. Along with the war in Africa / Burma / Singapore / Italy (3x the death count as the Americans excluding the colonies) / Greece and American troops not approaching the same numbers as the UK in the European theatre until 1944. Oh yea and the navy, that's around 100k on its own.
