Still anyone sticked to floppy disks?

Since I use virtual machine to run old DOS games on my Windows 7 machine (direct launch do not work), I am sticked to use floppy disk images and physical floppy disks, which still contain the original games.

I am asking - do have still someone some floppy disks somewhere? Or is it just dead and old-fashioned method of keeping data? Also I would like to try out making some DOS apps starting with something really easy like playing a melody ending up with a simple game based on the paper ones played back in childhood times (for example LodÄ›, maybe you know tht under names Boat(s), Ship(s) or Sea, I don't bother about english name now).

So? Still using floppy or moved to flash?

the only DOS i'd even consider playing any more is Doom, and i'm sure that must be available somewhere in non-DOS format

not sure though

I never played DOOM, but I'm not fan of horror games and since I played Tetris, Pacman and games like that in childhood, I will be sticked to these ;)

You can play all those old DOS games online now. No need for floppies.

Internets, I haven't bought a physical copy in ages and any data transfer I just use a flash stick :). Any games I bought before (like C&C RA2, AVP or ROMs) I use torrent sites. I did that even when I had a drive though because I couldn't be arsed to find the CDs and it's easier to keep them in a folder on the internal drive or in RA2s case Memphs drive blew my disc up.

I figured if I ever need one I'd just get an external drive, my case hasn't even got a drive bay. I don't think I've ever used the one on my laptop and I've had that for a good 3 years now.

It's not the true atmosphere as having it installed back from old days on your own computer. Maybe I'm just satisfied by old fashion, but that's I feel it. I like using outdated things as well as trying out news, though :)

If you're running a virtual machine can't you just create virtual flopies?

You could also just copy your floppies to something else like a thumb drive or your hard drive and use them from there. There's really no reason to keep a floppy drive.

seems everyone says i look like soandso when they see my in a pic

truth be told i have a weird morpho face lol

yea disks were a kind of a drag back then especially when doing huge 50+ disc backup reinstalls

i did end up getting a box of the right kind of scuzzies back in about 99-2000 tho

that was great you could just drag the whole drives contents to another scsi (diff size no matter) and the new drive would start up and everything would run perfectly. i hope those extra duped drives still work when i get my amigas and stuff going again.

i hope to never use another floppy

they have all kinds of cool stuff for amigas now, floppy usb conversion things, usb cards, network cards, decent scanrate fixing and uprezzing cards

i'm going to get some of those for sure
