I bet all you haters are gonna hate and bitch on Muse and say how after Origin of Symmetry they sucked but to me Muse is still one of the most original bands of this time who reinvent their own sound with every album they release. A shitty Muse song is still better than most of the shit they play on the radio these days.

meh...

actually no, sort of enjoyed that. A bit more stripped down and back to basics or wtevar... but the guitar work is a bit bland here.

Not a bad song. I saw Muse live a few years ago, they put on a pretty sweet show. Normally never listen to them though. Not sure I dig their guitar tone. They've got some fuzz on it or something that sounds too harsh to me.

Muse at Edinburgh Corn Exchange 2001 (Showbiz/Origins of Symmetry), still in my top 5 most awesome gigs!
wee venue rather than a massive arena sort of thing... brilliant.

Agreed. They're one of my favorites, along with Nine Inch Nails, for exactly this reason. And radio is a joke. I'm so glad that Blurred Lines bitch lost his suit and now everyone knows he's an unoriginal shit. And he's out $8 mil. :olo:

they're ok, but i'm still pleased that typing 'muse' into Wikipedia takes you straight to the page about the Greek goddesses of inspiration

I don't agree with you on the Blurred Lines thing though. This Robin Thicke may be a complete ass, Pharrell Williams is a very talented producer and songwriter. Blurred Lines wasn't stolen, it's very clear when you listen to the song that there aren't any tangible and quantifiable sections lifted one-on-one from Marvin Gaye's song (Got To Give It Up). Sure, Blurred Lines has a very similar style as Marvin Gaye's song and Pharrell Williams admitted as much earlier. He said Marvin Gaye was of great inspiration to him. But if that's breaking the law, then pretty much every composer would be a law breaker. Even the likes of Bach and Mozart lifted passages from other pieces to incorporate them in their own symphonies.

Also, the Gaye estate has now said they feel Pharrell Williams' song Happy sounds too much like Gaye's song Ain't That Peculiar. Judge for yourself, they barely sound the same, which to me is the final proof that the Gaye estate are just money hungry assholes.

Actually Thicke preemptively sued the estate to get the matter resolved rather than let the estate sue them later on, so Thick brought it on himself. Also, he's an ass, so it's easy to hate on him.

I get that music works off of inspiration, but the similarities between Blurred Lines and Got to Gve it Up go beyond sampling. My concern is that music will get too lazy and unoriginal if "inspiration" is too heavily relied upon. You do have a point, though.

Never turn on the radio then. All that shit sounds similar these days.

TBH the only similarities between the 2 songs is the drum beat and tempo. Electronic music has been ripping each others songs off since it started and it's largely accepted because that's how it progresses. It goes way beyond sampling, it's how entire genres are created.

I'm not a huge fan of Pharrell but I can appreciate what he does, he is a talented guy with various styles.
