A second Tim Willits interview at IGN

IGN posted an interview with Willits I guess yesterday, but a new one has come up this morning.
http://pc.ign.com/articles/610/610994p1.html
On the second page, Willits reveals some absolutely fantastic news (to me, it's fantastic, anyway).
IGN: How much can you say about multiplayer?
Tim Willits: That's another great question. The multiplayer is based on the Quake III physical feel. You know, it's mathematically the same. As a developer, you don't want to totally change the way everything feels between multiplayer and single-player, but we felt that we really needed to do that in Quake 4, so when you play multiplayer it's totally different than single-player. You'll have teleportation pad, jump pads, your bigger combat maps you're familiar with from Quake III. Deathmatch, plus there are CTF variants.
He said it's "mathematically the same" and to me, the implies that the physics will be extremely, extremely similar. That is way cool.

Yeah, doomer posted this in the other thread.
It sounds great because SP will be mush slower. You can ever rocket jump and nail jump too.

You can do lift jumps in Doom 3 you know :icon26:
I was never to good on jump pads, to much control was taken away from you, you was to easy to get railed lol

I'm excited about nail climbing. If the id guys can do it, it's got to be easier to do than plasma climbing was. And I totally respect plasma climbers, as it was an aquired skill, but if this easier version of it, nail climbing, can easily be picked up, and it adds that cool dynamic to the game, I'm all for it.
Oh! And they took the horrible blue-colored trailer down, and they have the higher-quality, and correctly-colored version of it up now. Seeing the trailer with the right colors is much better.
But yeah, MAN my opinion of this game has changed in the past few days. I'm so excited!

I never could plasma climb for shit.
And when I could it was like a one time thing, Id try it again and fail.

plasma climbing was piss easy once you got the hang of where to aim, however not a very viable escape mechanism though, seeing as it spelled death, either trying to line yourself up, or seeing as you're a slow moving target, silhouetted against a wall, lit up like christmas tree by blue plasma.

Yes but you could jump long gaps using it too, either by boosting you a tiny bit off the jump, or climbing along side the wall. Or both.

Well im talking in terms of Tricking, Anyone who would use Plasma climb during a match would just be a retard.

Sorry to cut you down but it's actually used quite a lot in matches on ztn3tourney1. For a while there, it was pretty much the preferred way to get to the ra if you were on the gl ledge.
Also (and I know we're talking about plasma climbing, not pg jumping, but anyway), Cooller has (not sure why) started plasma jumping from the rl to the ya in pro-q3tourney7. Also, if you're really skilled, you can save a couple of seconds of running into the circle jump by plasma jumping the bridge to rail q3dm6 jump. It's pretty useful.

I'm curious to what the entirely new game will be that
Todd Hollenstead mentions in that video interview linked to from the Tim Willits interveiw.
It's still in the idea phase. Carmack is working on a brand new renderer. It's
not Wolfenstein, Quake or Doom related. Meaning it's not ET:QW he's talking about. Specially since Splash Damage is already working on ET:QW and they have screenshots of it and obviously have a good idea of what kind of game it will be which he says they really don't with this very new game. But it will be an FPS game.
Exciting with new id stuff
He also talks about spesifics on Q4MP, so if yo haven't seen it: See it!
Seem that with Q3MP-experience they really mean Q3TA, so nailgun will most likely be Q3TA nailgun, not Quake.

I dunno, for an id game, ET:QW is a big step in a different direction...
Not liking the pay monthly part though...

There is talk about it being a moy monthly deal, with it being more "RPG" that "quake". You level up like in ET, but this saves you stats for every match.
Thats fine for RPG's, but for FPS games thats gonna suck badly because you cant just jump into a game and play. What happens when you buy the game 6 months down the line and jump onto a server with people at level 60?
The only way it would work is if they made servers only for players of a certain level, so that you dont get your ass handed to you.
