As long as they don't put customs in I don't care. I just love the riding up there, off next week for 4 days of riding.

I couldn't really give a toss, I just think the guy who's leading the 'yes' campaign is an idiot.
His key arguements seem to be -
Independence > ? > Profit !
I think they'll be screwed if they left though, from an outsider looking in, our Parliaments (Scots and Welsh) are an utter joke. Just hope the Welsh don't get any funny ideas. I think devolved powers is a good road to take.

There's talk going around that Scotland would have to spend every penny from those reserves to meet the nations demand n all, with supplies dwindling fast - 3.0 billion barrels to 1.0 billion barrels over the last 20 years. I seen figures concerning the whole of the UK that at current demand without imports there would only be enough gas and oil for the next 50 years.
There's a lot of mud slinging and truth twisiting so don't put too much faith in the image I posted. The figures about oil production is a fact though and gas is going the same way. The UK already imports a lot of its fossil fuels with other industries such as nuclear being the major players, so I'd imagine Scotland would be hurt a lot more as those revenues from their production keep falling whilst the UK carries on doing what its doing, as they only take up a small percentage of supply anyway whilst for Scotland it would be their main source of revenue.
I think Scotland could manage it, I just think they'd be worse off for it, their currency would be weaker, their defence budget would be 0, public sector jobs would fall and fossil fuels will eventually run out etc etc, just so they can say they're independent.
If they want control over taxes and public spending, why not just ask for more powers to be granted ?, stronger as a unit n all that.
That's what I'd want the Welsh parliament to do first if it comes to it, to prove they're up to the task instead of acting like children and bickering in a school yard.
There could also be border control (DB) if they don't make it into Europe which is a real possibility and could have to wait atleast 5 years if they do.

It seems that the scotts are a odd bunch so there is a chance of this threat being legit, but I am suspecting that what's really going on, is a bluff. They want more so the way they are trying to achieve it is by threatening to pull out of the union, cause if human nature in general is any indication, nobody would give a shit about their demands otherwise.
It's not much of a bluff either, cause that would mean they have something to lose... they either get what they want ( which will surely show itself during the proceedings of all this) or they can just backpedal and at least get a petty fuck out of the deal.

I'm pretty sure the SNP want an independent Scotland, which is run by the retard leading the 'yes' campaign. But yea, pretty sure the other parties are banking on increased powers. The lack of planning over things like currency and entry into the EU supports what you've said, and why the SNP dude is a complete thicko.
If it's remotely close I'll be surprised but (almost) everything I've read so far is suggesting it has the potential to go either way. Not the 1st time I heard this coming from the tabloids though, they gotta sell them papers.
It'll be pretty hard to back pedal on a public vote though me thinks ?, sounds risky.

Was just using forum lingo...not so much a backpedal, more of a "coming to a fair agreement" of which at that point could easily be catered enough to retain dignity without actually gaining anything.
But I'm just basing this on generalities, and not so much on actual knowledge on parties involved :P

Fun fact - The English never defeated the Scots at Falkirk as depicted in the film (thus fucking up Wallaces rebellion), it was the Welsh conscripts

whichever way the vote goes, it won't be glorious victory for either side. unionists have failed miserably to make a positive case for the union, restricting themselves to picking at the SNP's inflated claims; pro-independence people have relied on questionable empirical claims about Scotland being better off independent, rather than making a positive case for 'independence at all costs', which would have at least shown some balls under them kilts
then again, other people who also reject Britain have pissed off to Syria/Iraq and cut people's heads off for Allah, so i guess we should be thankful for small mercies

Which is why our parliaments are a farce, if they can't construct an arguement for or against then how in the fuck can they run a country ?
That for me would be reason enough to stay in the union, the alternative being run by the chuckle brothers.

The "Yes" campaign had to be overly optimistic in its propaganda to counteract what the "No" side was doing, which was essentially scaremongering... if they had turned around and said "well actually THIS bit might not be so great, and THIS bit might need a bit of work", then the No side would have jumped on it.
What we ended up with is two sides harping on about propaganda issues without properly giving a clear and realistic picture of the future.
The other problem is that nobody really knows fuck all about what will happen either way. The best thing that might happen is we get a better political picture north of the border (ie. a government that we actually voted for).
I'm seriously worried about the whole anti-english/anti-scottish sentiment flying around in the media though... (North AND South of the border) it's nowt to do with racist bigoted shite, it's about politics.

Scotland's economic prospects don't look great either. the oil revenues are dwindling, and an independent Scotland will be able less able to stand up to the EU and the markets than the UK
having "2/3rds of Europe's oil" is a bit like being the second-tallest of the seven dwarves

don't quote me on that - it's a figure i've heard bandied about, but given this is a referendum campaign charged with wild claims and inaccurate bullshit, it could be total bollox. it's a claim made in the context of Scotland becoming a new Norway, awash in oil and $900bn sovereign wealth funds, i.e. more bollox

also, Scotland would claim 90% of the North Sea oil in the event of independence. however, oil revenues are declining, and while they make up 2% of current UK revenue, but would make up 18% of an independent Scotland's revenue
tl;dr - in 10-15 years, Scotland will be funding 18% of its budget with 90% of fuck-all
