Vicente Fox's comments...(blacks and mexicans)

Soo, el presidente is in a bit of trouble for this comment:
"There’s no doubt that the Mexican men and women — full of dignity, willpower and a capacity for work — are doing the work that not even blacks want to do in the United States,” Fox told a meeting of the Texas-Mexico Frozen Food Council in the western city of Puerto Vallarta on Friday."
They seem to have their own Bush.

So what? He's not implying the blacks aren't capable of doing the work, nor is he implying that blacks in general don't want to work. He's just saying that mexicans will work for peanuts, hence invest in us

I'm not horribly offended by it, but it does seem to portray a lack of tact...there are many ways he could have made the point you describe.

It's more a reflection of the way that you can't ever mention race without someone getting offended these days.
Was watching a bit of The Dambusters yesterday, cos it was on telly. I have to say I winced a bit each time the dog's name got mentioned....

My uncle, who isn't racist, once told me basically the same thing. He said something like
"Now I don't want you to think I'm racist, but it's just pretty apparent that hispanics, expecially Mexicans, are ready and willing to work. Now the black folks, some just don't seem to have the effort or care, and if they do, they're in much better paying jobs."

Instead of using race as an example he should have just said normal americans or something else politicaly acceptable. That's just rude.

What, so drawing attention to a social inequality is the same thing as telling the disadvantaged that they're losers? You've been watching too many Eddie Murphy films. There are no skyscrapers full of black accountants in the US.

That's because idiots like you keeping putting them down as a race stiffling they're ability to grow.
I'm all for equal rights, I think things like mandatory hiring of minorities is wrong and racist. I think people should be hired based on qualifications only. The problem isn't one all encompassing trait that's causing this it's a bunch of little issues causing a greater overall problem. That's just one. People in a position of power putting down a certain race or gender as a whole is another. Idiots not realizing the impact a statement can make to a lot of people is another and there's a hundred more like it contributing to an overall problem with racism.

Before I was more aware of the world, we got a black labrador, and I was always obsessed with The Dambusters when I was little and i wanted to call him Nigger, it took a great deal of effort for my parents to put me off the idea without telling me it was racist.

Heh. The other day I was on the way to work and reading an ebook of collected Lovecraft stories on my Palm (talentless hack by the way, don't know why he's so popular with nerds), specifically "The rats in the walls". The protagonist has a black cat called "******-man"

No he's implying that blacks are generally the lowest caste in America, and by and large he's still right. Obviously that's a very generalistic statement that doesn't apply to everyone but it ruffles a lot of feathers because it points out directly how fucked up our system still is.
