so i got my hands on a dual core 64-bit cpu and was wondering about one thing and i couldn't find the answer to it by searching. i understand you can run 32-bit applications under a 64-bit OS but i heard you can only do that if the app has 64-bit code in it. but that seemed kinda odd because then what would be the point of running it in 32-bit if you could just opt for the 64?

now as far as hardware goes though you're pretty much screwed unless you have a 64-bit driver for it, correct?

and i'm familiar with the whole notion that it might not be reasonable to switch over to 64-bit yet so you don't have to preach it to me.

now as far as the dual core goes, uh, anything that can really take advantage of this yet?

Yes, 32-bit apps are SUPPOSED to work just the same under a 64-bit OS as it would on a 32-bit OS.

Dual Core reviews have been popping up all over the net this week. Check out Tom's Hardware, and AnAndTech for some good reviews of the new AMD 64 X2's. Looks like they are best for people who want to run multiple things all at one time. Or if you have the money buy one anyways because they outperform the single core chips.

well, as it sits. .us 64-biters are basically fucked because not all mainstream people have add'd 64-bit support ( or atleast Good Support ) for there line in hardware..

just put 32-bit windows on untill the lime light shines.
