also, TV reporters will be standing in the snow in various locations around the country telling people that it's snowing, and keeping us up to date on all the minor collisions and vehicular breakdowns that occur. this will be broken up with phone and/or CCTV footage of people falling over, and accompanied by portentous news-y drumming music so we're reminded of what serious business this is

But does it always have to be such sensationalist bullshit? Why try and find a major story in everything? And when there is a big story why do we need big yellow flashing banners and constant updates about every insignificant going on where the news is?

I might just be getting cynical in my old age but it feels like I'm being treated like a moron and fed bullshit while the stories only serve to highlight the stupidity of a large proportion of the population.

They need something to talk about, watch a bit of Sky Sports News and you really do see how big they blow up every story just so they have something to talk about. It's pathetic how much of a boner is to be had on transfer deadline day especially when they cut to that sap with the 3 mobile phones hoping that 1 of them will ring informing him of a big name transfer :/

this seems to be universal. normally they would freak out about milk being 1 day over the expiration date BUT when it snows a lot/rains a lot/some union strike/bank holidays suddenly milk never goes bad.
