Ok, this is going to be nerdy, but oh gosh, I love it so much.

I bet many people here are at least vaguely familiar with tabletop games such as Warhammer or its 40K spinoff. Warhammer has a problem though: it's ridiculously expensive and as a result of that, doesn't have all that many players around.

So in stepped three dudes who came up with the idea of designing their own tabletop strategy game and make it available under a Creative Commons license. In practice this means (among other things) that you can download the rulebook as a PDF file for free. It also doesn't have the problem of miniatures, because you'll be building them yourself.... out of LEGO!

The rulebook includes schematics for a number of the mechas you can build, but of course you're free to design your own as well. You can also design your own terrain out of LEGO and the rule allows for destructible terrain as well, which is of course easily doable with LEGO

There's a whole forum filled with nerds who love designing stuff like this and yeah, those nerd synapses in my brain are firing like crazy right now :D

Yeah, but it's got four advantages:
- Many people already have a lot of LEGO
- You can buy LEGO parts in bulk without the need to buy pre-designed boxes for relatively cheap.
- If you're missing a piece, you're free to change the design to match whatever you have.
- LEGO no longer has a patent on the brick design, so there's "brand X" bricks available these days as well, which are cheaper.

Aye I'm just busting chops :), but the way it's set up you could probably make some card board cut outs ?, or convince the Warhammer nerds that you're too poor to buy the new orc-crusher 1000 fire tank so have included a half eaten prawn sandwich as a substitute :D

Not a big fan of board games even when I was nipper, can see why this is appealing and surprised something like this didn't turn up sooner but I built a fair bit of Airfix as a kid, so if you take away the plastic guys its already lost it's appeal to me :(
