So apparently, Verizon thinks it's a good idea to include a camera and microphone in their set-top boxes to be able to better target commercials. Who here thinks this is a wonderful idea? It's just a patent, but it does illustrate how content providers' minds work.

Two useful applications, from the patent itself:

sounds of arguing prompt ads for marriage counseling, while sounds of “cuddling” prompts ads for contraceptives.

They should send tag meta-data with the commercials and let people opt in/out of certain tags.
