Anyone using it?

Everyone I talk to that has it loves the hell out of it. What I am wondering is when you do the hookup they say to do the following..

Internet ---> Broadband Modem -----> Vonage adapter ----> computer

is it possible to?

Internet ---> Broadband Modem -----> Wireless Router ----> Vonage adapter
....................................................................................L ----> computer

wtf is it?

its voip stuff...haven't tried it but I know I will be getting shitloads of training on it in the upcoming months.

yeah I was reading all that, My problem is I need to VPN into work and the Vonage adapter has been causinf issues. I also need to do quite a bit of port forwarding at my router.

oh...i think the site was to help the average aoling ding dong that can't tell an ethernet port from the hole in his ass.

Your stuff is setup like a pro...you might just want to call them or something. That has always been the number one solution for any problems I've had with equipment.

I have Vonage.... It works fine for me. My system is wired.....

Internet---> Broadband Modem ----> Vonage 'Router' ---> Computer and 2nd Router ----> More computers.

The 'Vonage adapter' you speak of is a Linksys RT31P2 router with 2 phone ports and 3 ethernet ports. You also have to remember that your phone has to plug into this router in order for you to use it. That typically means you're left with only one phone in the house that you can use. Though I could give you a few tips on what I did to make all the phone jacks in my house work, if you're interested. But right now I've got to go to work.

I Have a V-tech 2.4GHz phone system where I can connect up to 8 phones to one base so I'm good there. All my stuff is hooked up to a UPS so I don't need to worry about power outages.

Hooking into your house wiring is simple, just disconnect your existing incoming line from the telephone company and plug vonage into any phone jack.

I'm curious about the wireless router though, Linksys has 2 models similar model #'s both look different and only have one antenna...

Well it's not that simple when your existing main telephone line is terminated to a box mounted on the outside of the house and your vonage router needs to go inside, on the opposite end of the house.

All you need to do is disconnect the line from the phone company. in that box, if the rest of your house is wired already all you need to do is plug the adapter into the colsest wall jack. You don't need to wire it to the box unless you only have 1 jack in your house.

I have my router and network setup, then i put the vonage router on the outside of the network, meaning i just hooked it to the lan slot on the router of my existing network.

GROSS. They illustrated the modem as a Motorola Surfboard 3100. Yuck.

Edit: You can get an 800 number for $4.99 a month? That's totally worth it if it's legit.

Yeah I found going through a retail store like Best Buy gives you more adapter/router options. I got the Linksys PAP2 it's just the phone adapter that connects to an ethernet port on my wireless router for $59.99 with a $59.99 rebate. I didn't want to fuck with my wireless after getting my car, media center and media streamer all working perfectly. It's slightly larger than a pack of cigarettes so it's easy to take along with me when I travel to DK.

it also looks like the motorola SB 4100 and could pass for a 5100 as well.

From what i've read, the VPN eather needs to be DMZ ( dosent allways work ) or on the outside of your line.

My VPN has always worked behind my linksys wireless G right out of the box, using Cisco VPN client 3.6 and 4.6. You can only rin 1 client at a time though. Linksys even makes a router the creates a permanent tunnel within the router (no PC side software required)

All problems are sloved I got an adapter that goes behind the firewall

it's a linksys adapter and in the setup it says if you have any problems then try UDP port forwarding and it gives you all the ports. Most say it works right out of the box. We'll see when I get home later how rough it is...

I got home an hour ago, plugged everything in and after about 4 minutes of flashing lights, I was online.

Nothing else to configure, just plug it in to my router. I called a friend and my mom and talked for an hour while downloading the latest version of GUNZ. Call quality and volume is great, no problems at all.

I like it....
