So what's it like? MKJ I'm looking at you...you have smashed some time into it, is it as good as Burnout was?
Pros and cons...
Go.

I've been playing it for a while and I quite enjoy it.
You can seamlessly mod your car, start a race, swap cars, et cetera without going into the main menu. You don't have to pause the game to do anything other than look at leaderboards or change options, really. There are some 40 cars total, all unlocked from the start and discoverable throughout the world, and each one has their own set of races which allow you to unlock mods and stuff. There are time trials, getaway chases and conventional races to choose from. It gets repetitive after a while, but I guess there's multiplayer on top of that to give you some variety. I haven't even bothered with MP yet.
There are plenty of different routes to take for races throughout the world, but despite its modest size, eventually you'll start passing the same landmarks multiple times. The is both good and bad. You'll become familiar with the world and be able to use it to your advantage to take shortcuts and learn routes, but at the same time you'll end up passing the same things over and over.
The game looks stunning. They use just the right amount of bloom and ambient occlusion to draw the player into the world, and they nailed the color palette. The cars are made with a ridiculous amount of polygons and you can tell when the camera gets close. It's nuts how detailed the cars are. The textures around the world are pretty high quality, too.
I enjoy the game a bunch. It's fun to pick up and play for half an hour here and there.

Sounds sweet, anything a bit more like Gran Turismo / Forza but for the PC ?

Enjoyed Grid, will no doubt enjoy that too, has more of an arcade feel though ?. Would like a big selection of cars I can change the colour on, maybe add my own stickerz and big rimz :]

I have smashed an hour or three, so I only have first thoughts.
MP is as fun as Burnout MP, with the challenges and all.
SP; it's not Burnout Paradise 2. It has a lot of Burnout in it but it's all in the familiar NFS look and feel.
This is both a pro and a con; the city is built like Paradise, lots of sharp turns and ad hoc jumps. But the slightly laggy handling of NFS cars make these tricky to actually use.
Also, the use of real life cars is very cool, the downside is that the crashes are nowhere near as spectacular as Burnout. Cars have a limit to how damages they can get (not much), so dont expect parts flying off or even huge dents. No matter how many mph you smashed into that slowpoke van coming from the left.
All cars are unlocked from the start, just have to find them in the city. Cool idea. Downside is that you can only do an x amount of events per car. After that you need a new car to progress further, and those events are pretty much repeats of previous events. You can upgrade the cars with nitrous and offroad tires and such, but only after you've unlocked them. For each car seperately.
Feels counterintuitive to upgrade my awesome Panamera only to do it all over again for my newly found Ford GT.
In the reviews there was talk about lack of personality of the drivers on the Most Wanted list. They don't have names or anything, just "Mercedes 500SLK".
While this is true, what actually happens is that these Most Wanted drivers get replaced by people on your friends list, based on XP points theyve gathered. So I don't see a Mercedes SLK as Most Wanted #7, I see Transient.
This, to me, is awesome

It's a completely different game I reckon? NFS is about speed and jumps and taking turns at 100 miles an hour.
Forza is about realism, no?

Based on you playing both extensively or is that a random throw away comment?

While you homosexuals are sitting indoors playing racing car video games, I'm outside riding this.

Played it a bit.
I don't give a shit about modding cars, how many cars you can get, how socially integrated it is, how shiny the repetitive tracks look.
What I care about in a racing game is how the cars handle, and the cars in this game handle like shit.
Seriously, getting these pieces of crap to go where you want them to is like pushing a reluctant, aggressive 3 legged pig to the slaughter house.
It's like the response time has been deliberately been lengthened, just to fuck you over.
A big "no thank you very much" from me.
I'll go back four (!) fucking years to grid and dirt to get me some quality racing.

The lack of responsiveness was something I did notice, but now that I take it into consideration, it's no longer an issue. I compensate when steering/braking/drifting and now it feels fine. Play more than a bit and you may get used ot it?

Unless you exclusively dig track racing, horizon is a great open world game with the same feel as GRID.

Take it into consideration? Compromise? Why?
Fuck that shit. Is this the middle ages? No.
I fucking demand responsiveness. Now. There's no excuse.

I've been enjoying Forza Horizon, which is a good mix of arcade/race handling. Can't say I have any desire to pick this one up.

More the latter than the former. But I'm familiar with Forza 2 and Forza 3 (and the Forza 4 demo) and they cater towards the simulation side of racing games while NFS has always been more about action and arcade racing.

Sorry, I also thought you were talking to Eraser.
I stopped playing the NFS series with Carbon. I felt the games direction was going a bit too far with the arcade feeling of the game (IE: never brake) and it was getting tiresome. Additionally I've stopped buying EA games as I don't support the company. I played the original MW though and every NFS title prior to NFS Pro Street. I'd say the original MW was my favorite NFS title.
That said, I heard this one handles a bit like Burnout Paradise which is fine but not my favorite Burnout title. I've been a huge fan of criterion racing games ever since Burnout 3 and Burnout Revenge, two of my favorite arcade style racing games. Frankly, why they went away from this formula baffles me as it's what made this company what it is today. I know a lot of you guys really liked Paradise too but that's because you probably suck at burnout revenge. Revenge will always be the superior game in terms of gameplay, frankly, I haven't played a better arcade style racer since F-Zero and Wipeout HD.
All that aside, I've played every Forza title as well and as far as gameplay is concerned the NFS can't even come close. Sure you're going to say, NFS isn't going for realism but once you've figured out how to do every corner without braking, the game gets old fairly quick, perhaps with this recent title they've added some game modes and it's not ridiculously difficult to find a game online like previous titles? I dunno, but Forza doesn't have this problem since Forza 4. Online games are fun and easy to find. The gameplay is smooth and precise, in horizon there's even a bit of arcade style gaming going on since you can now take shortcuts in grass and through fences. No real jumps though although that doesn't mean you can't jump, just that sticking a landing is a bit tricky, I'm guessing like a real car would be. They have a lot of fun gameplay modes, challenge modes, free roam and of course races.
I dunno what it is about Forza but it's a well put together franchise and thus far they've made some great games. The best thing they could do next is add some motorbikes. Rally racing is also quite fun but as far as gameplay goes it just can't be beat in my opinion.
It takes some getting used to, fortunately in horizon you can't tune your car, you can only buy upgrades which if you're like me is awesome. (I used to only buy upgrades in Forza 4, I rarely tuned anything) but it's enough customization to personalize your car the way you want it. There also seems to be less of the "1 overpowered" car in any category too, most cars are fairly competitive if properly upgraded although I'd say AWD vehicles seem to have a slight advantage off the line.
