The next Nexus phone is going to be the widely leaked LG Nexus 4.

With the Nexus 10, I think Android tablets have finally matured to the point where they're worth serious consideration in the 10" form factor.

There's also a 3G version of the Nexus 7 along with a storage space bump [8/16 to 16/32].

Finally, 4.2 is going to remain Jelly Bean, no KLP just yet. I think that's the gist of what's going to be announced.

They've made all the official announcements, despite the event getting cancelled due to Hurricane Sandy.

Samsung Nexus 10: http://www.gsmarena.com/google_official ... s-5014.php

Jelly Bean 4.2 updates: http://www.gsmarena.com/android_42_is_o ... s-5016.php

3G Nexus 7: http://www.gsmarena.com/google_announce ... s-5015.php

Nothing unexpected, and some very reasonable price points [which is really all that was unknown previously].

not sure why the nexus 4 is even news at this point, the optimus G will be the next big boy in town, and it'll be out next month. that's what I'm prolly gonna get.

Probably because it's a reference Nexus phone that will get OS updates straight from Google without having to go through the inane Google -> handset maker -> carrier cycle, which can take anywhere from 6 months to a year.

Case in point: Optimus G is launching with ICS, software that's a year old at this point. It has a planned upgrade to 4.1.1, which is not even the latest JB version. Comparatively, the Nexus 4 is launching with 4.2 which will be the latest. Because it's a Nexus phone, it will always be on the latest. Who knows how long the 4.1.1 [not to mention 4.2 and future versions] update will take on the Optimus G?

That is, if you want to stick with official stock ROMs and updates. If you want to root and flash community stuff, then have at it.

As well, the Nexus 4 is actually built on Optimus G hardware, but without LTE and an SD card slot. Have a look at this comparison:

So, the tradeoff here is LTE and an SD slot vs. not having to root and flash community ROMs [and all the jiggery pokery that entails].

No microSD slot for Nexus 10? Not worth it.

i'm prolly gonna eventually use custom roms but also sprint is finally getting 4g here but it's going to be LTE so I need an lte phone, and these days a new cell without lte is kind of silly.

So it seems LTE is a must-have for you, and you're willing to making the shitty LG software layer / upgrade cycle tradeoff. That's a perfectly valid position. For those who don't want to make this tradeoff though, the Nexus 4 is a good fit. It's hard to find this good specs for $299 outright, on an unlocked phone without a contract.

it's either 4g lte or 3g.. no 4g wimax here... I'd be giving up alot. also, custom roms are just a few tubes away. but yeah, for those who can't hold on to the same phone for 2 years i can see the attraction.

Out of curiosity, what exactly do you do on your phone that mandates LTE? Personally, I find 3G HSPA+ speeds [21 Mbps theoretical max] sufficient for my needs, but of course this is subjective.

I don't see how you can reach this conclusion. Nexus phones have an average lifespan longer than the average Android phone due to official software updates. The Nexus S [a 2 year old Nexus phone] is on Jelly Bean whereas the Galaxy S [similarly aged iirc] never made it past Gingerbread.

i said it because contracts are usually for 2 years. Also, our 3g is not even a good 3g, it's more like 128k, so yeah a 4g lte connection will make the difference.

Yea, I'm just gonna go ahead and suggest that the real attraction of not getting locked into a 2 year contract is precisely that: not getting locked into a 2 year contract.
