They also need to come up with a sexier name then 'self-driving car'.

Just don't plug it into the interwebs or it'll become self aware, I'm assuming that's what this bill was taking precautions against. I fully approve

oh god yes, imagine if this navigated using google maps. you'd end up parked in your neighbour's front garden, which your car's robotic voice would be telling you was the house across the street, displaying a street view picture of the house two doors down to prove it :olo:

I'm sure, once this baby gets consumerized, google will be looking to make a shit load of money and updating google maps will become more frequent and extremely improved.

Better than using Apple maps. You'd end up in a cornfield slash airport.

It doesn't use Google Maps to not crash into stuff, that's what all the on-board optical sensors, computers and other gadgets mounted onto the car are for, not sure though.

pretty sure. it's no biggie really...as soon as it gets approved for the public, with the money they are looking to make, it won't take but a year or two to get all that shit incorporated into the car body.

They won't be making the car itself, so they'll be teaming up with auto manufacturers to integrate it all together, I suppose that's the least of their worries right now. This new bill is a big step because it means Google can start doing some larger scale tests on normal roads to test accuracy and reliability. 5 year timeline until cars become self aware and start running humans over.

Why the fucking shit would you go into oncomming traffic if you're not going to stop fast enough to rear end someone!? At least try and take it out on the shoulder or something. I'm gonna have to assume the driver simply lost consciousness.
