(football) Anyone remember...

...When I suggested we place a chip in the ball and have it play a sound in the refs ear when it crossed the line ?, probaly not so fuck u.
The system means an "instantaneous" signal (quicker than one tenth of a second) would be sent to the referee when it is detected the ball has crossed the line - faster, in effect, than the assistant referee could flag for a goal.

Me mad ?, hells yea, I've been conned out of millions >:E

Other football news, the Police and few members of parliament got caught fiddling the system trying to cover up a fuck up -
Files detailing police cover-ups over the Hillsborough disaster were given to the Crown Prosecution Service (CPS) 14 years ago, it has been claimed.

Alun Jones QC led a private prosecution for manslaughter against senior police officers who were in charge when 96 Liverpool fans died in April 1989.

Mr Jones said the CPS needed to explain why it did "absolutely nothing".

Without wanting to sound too controversial, if you killed every single football player, manager, club owner, and every single human being who had more than a weekend interest in the game, the world would be either better, or no worse off.

A little harsh given the amount of children, who have yet to have their heads turned by the money, greed and foul play that football offers, that would perrish.

Some people play for the love of the sport and the game. Granted there are very few adults who do this, but for children it's about the game, surely?

Also on the football topic, I have found myself supporting my local team far more over the last 3 seasons than I do any premiership teams. I think because they are local I feel they deserve my time. Newport County don't even play league football but I still enjoy following them.

That being said, Rugby is where it's at, along with Formula 1

You can't make an omelet with just cheese and salt.

I've been saying they should use this in american football for years. There is always so much debate about where to spot the ball after a play and many games come down to a single incorrect spot changing the outcome.

Still keep an eye on the county, last game I attended was when we were in the BSP though, 2 years ago ?, won the Welsh Cup :], was gutted we lost Holdsworth :(

F1 has become just as spoiled, or possibly even more so than footie, It's still boss but depressing at the same time, Rugby culture is becoming rather Americanised now n all :/

I actually used to be against it, then after the frequency in which obvious decisions were going other ways, it became a bit of a farce. Thought American footie was full of all this technology though ?, I used to say if they opened the doors to technology in the sport, it'll end up looking like that :)

Why a chip in the ball instead of lasers like in tennis? A chip in the ball will affect how the ball moves :dork:

How about because the goalkeeper is constantly crossing the line?

Does go into a bit of detail in the article posted, they're planning on using 2 technolgies I think. Hawk eye - which is expensive because it uses 6 cameras to track the ball in flight, using triangulation to tell a computer where it is (I thought Hawk Eye was from Tennis too ?). Then there's GoalRef - which was my idea that was stolen !, and just uses a sensor in the stitching of the ball and goal posts which is cheaper and simpler, the tech they were testing before required the chip to be placed in the centre of the ball.

I'm guessing lower league clubs will be given the option of what they prefer seeing as they're pretty skint already.

(I can't actually remember if it was me who suggested it, or started arguing against someone that I was calling stupid for suggesting it, but either way tis an opportunity missed ;) )

Err, the hawk-eye system used in tennis doesn't use lasers. It uses high speed cameras which record the movements off the ball.[/quote]
DTS wrote:A chip in the ball will affect how the ball moves :dork:
No it won't. A chip is so small and so light that it will not have any noticeable impact on the movement of the ball. It's not like they're strapping a laptop to the side of it.
