I bought a new Panasonic TC-L42E3 last weekend and I can't seem to get it to display my computer's desktop on it.

- I have a Zotac GTX 560ti and I've connected my HDMI cable to my television and my video card's mini HDMI output (I'm using the adapter that came with the vid card).
- My computer's "screen resolution" screen shows my "Panasonic-TV" in the list as well as my monitor and - for some reason - a third monitor "Display device on VGA". So my computer knows my tv is connected to it, but it won't display anything on the tv.
- BTW...my tv is now shown as screen 1 when I press the "Identy" button and my normal monitor is now screen 2.
- If I select "Extend Desktop To This Display" it switches to my monitor being "screen 2"...with the Start button and everything off screen (supposedly it's on my tv which displays nothing) and it'll eventually reset itself since the "revert" prompt is off screen and I can't see it to press the button.
- I mentioned that there's a third monitor, but when I select it and press the "Detect" button it shows only my monitor and indicates that my monitor is now both screen 1 and 2, while screen 3 doesn't seem to do anything and still nothing displays on the tv....all it does is say "ensure external device is turned on, select input, etc, etc".

FYI, I thought HDMI was hotswappable but just to be safe I shut my computer down before connecting the cables.

Any ideas on why my new tv hates my setup?

I have a Panasonic TX-P50U30E and remember having trouble connecting it to my computer as well. It works now, though I'm not sure how I got it to work. I also had the problem of it recognizing the monitor but nothing displaying on it.
I think I tried unplugging the computer monitor, swapping their place with each other, changing resolution to 720p, and then it just magically started showing a picture after a while. Maybe that's why I don't remember, because it seemed so random.

Have you cycled through all 3 or 4 hdmi channels?
Does the tv give an error message, like "no signal"?
You could try unplugging other monitors, forcing the signal to your tv.
I assume you set your pc to your tv's native resolution/refresh rate (1920x1080/60, probably)?

It could be a variety of things. when you extend your desktop does your TV actually display a blank desktop? Is the cable that plugs into the TV a VGA cable or HDMI cables? I think you said HDMI, just checking.

Does your video card come with screen sharing software? If so I'd recommend using it. Often the custom software has more features built in and helps a lot for issues like this. The built in Windows software is limited and can't do certain thigns. It's not often I'll advocate 3rd party software over the windows software but in this case I do sometimes.

Another thing that happens sometimes is that it's working fine, just for some reason the monitor is REALLY zoomed into a specific section of the screen making it look like there's nothing but really it's just the zoom level.

If you're using Windows 7, you'll want to take a look at the projector section of your display properties, even though it's not a projector that section has a lot of features that applies to dual monitors or 3 monitors.

Another thing you could do is remove the 3rd monitor completely so it's just the TV and your regular monitor and then try adding the extra monitor to see if you can get it working in that order.

Lastly I can remote into your PC and see if I can fix it for you No viruses or lead pipes I promise. I actually am certified by Microsoft lol.

Well I tried all 4 HDMI connections and a bunch of other shit people suggested and it still won't work blah blah blah. I'll connect via the PC connector when I buy a long enough cable.
