So the brits might have a real shot at pioneering spaceflight for the forseeable future, if this thing gets going...
UK Skylon spaceplane passes key review
The proposed Skylon vehicle would do the job of a big rocket but operate like an airliner, taking off and landing at a conventional runway...
...This power unit is designed to breathe oxygen from the air in the early phases of flight - just like jet engines - before switching to full rocket mode as the Skylon vehicle climbs out of the atmosphere.

Just imagine what would happen if aliens were introduced to sausages? It'd be all out war.

lol what an odd engine design, someone took the up and forward idea a little too literally.
I guess they have to create lift from pure force, since wings might not withstand the re-entry.

no dumbass, but they would carry more cargo into space more cheaply than rockets, allowing a spacecraft that *would* get us to Mars (or anywhere else) to be built in orbit

I think they should take those multiple billions in cash they'd spend on this craft and instead send every brit to the dentist...including braces...so that the aliens won't nuke us all.
And for fucks sake don't let them get rot gut from english muffins.
