looking for a tutorial

A while back, someone pointed me in the direction of a tutorial that showed how to compile the AAS file from maps that are needlessly complex (mine). It did this by first making your map, then building a simplified version into a different map, then running BSPC on the simplified map and using that AAS file with the original, complex map. I couldn't bring it up with google and I can't seem to find the thread, I know it's around here somewhere though.

didn't wanna make a new thread for this: similar type problem

I'm putting a lava brush behind some grates in order to crate a particular lighting effect, but when this surface emits light, it's spawning light points too far apart and it produces really uneven light. I'm looking for the parameter in the shader that controls this. I feel like it was Eraser that mentioned it a while ago (or am I crazy?)

Thanks
