q3dmp15- electrical substation 30

well here it is, an early beta of my current wip.
things to do:
finish the clipping pass
more texture work
more fine detail work
final item layout
*edit: this build has a budget light pass as i figure it will keep the file size down
so this time around ive gone a more textural path. simple really not much to say

feedback plz

dont think so, all from q3 maps on lvl. credits have been done, did not see elite force mentioned... but if you can point out which textures you are talkin about ill look into it.

Wow fkd, just amazing how you develop a wellthought architecture every time again. Really nice.
also the mix of textures falls into place. I also like to mix up texturepacks to create new themes.
The server room made me smile. :-)
Some slight suggestions from my side:
- IMO the glass could look a little bit more dirty. You could have a look into my glass shader of pukka3tourney6. If you like you can use it of course..
- Apparently the scenery plays underground. But as I really like the scifi look of the map and the fact you have a load of cool windows in the map I think it would be cool if you can look outside into a stunning colorful skybox in some spots.
- I would make those weaponspawns for every weapon look the same.
- In the main room @RL the glass could have a narrow trim all around on all edges. Would look better IMO.
- I would like to see a powerup on the big machineblock in the MH room. Maybe even a Quad. But a Invis would fit the map as well, as its very grey and highquality...
Other from that I like the items in their spots now. Well thought.
Another set would be to put a PU into RG spot and put the RG somewhere. This room is a nice fighting spot for a PU. RG could then replace GL or such. Just my thoughts at the moment, hopping through the map. :-)
Maybe I have further thoughts later on.

from what i can tell textures are marsbase and andromeda as well as stock baseq3 lights... but yeah maps looks frikin amazing!

I am not a fan of the fan (haha) near the health balls. You use this texture for every jumppad and suddenly you have a corner where you use the texture, too, but which isn't a jumppad. Feels weird to me.
Other than that, very nice map.
What happend to the one of the Noghost Mapping Comp2?

Stunning as always! And good to see that my fear it could turn out to be too similiar to Phobos Base (texture-wise) was unnecessary.

Gonna test yours today or tomorrow, still gotta upload some older feedback pics first.

K, tested it. Not much to whine about (what a surprise

), only 2 suggestions, since you have already mentioned you'll be going for clipping anyway: when clipping, don't forget about the double stairs seen in your first picture (you can crawl under it) and the teleporter at the bottom of the map (either make the trigger area larger or clip its sides, at the moment they are non-solid).

This map does look incredible, the layout is very interesting....this makes really good use of vertical play-space which i've only seen done well once before in another map called Duel Twilight. There's something about the way you can layer spaces vertically that makes the map feel more intese, it's not an easy thing to pull off while getting it to look this good. You've done both.
The only thing I can suggest is what Bliccer already said about using the fan texture inconsistently. (even if it's only used inconsistently once)
Very nicely done.

Cool map, looks very nice and polished.
I buzzed around with some bots for a bit, I didn't really find any glaring problems. The only two things I noticed were:
1) Seems like there isn't enough weapons and/or spawn points. I played for about 20 minutes and I swear that I had a machine gun or a lightning gun for 90% of that.
2) As mentioned, that fan near the health globes that isn't a jump pad threw me off as well. I jumped on it a few times the first time I saw it and was like "why aren't I going anywhere?!"
The layout felt good. Everything flowed easily and action was always right around the corner. This is with 4 bots. I like the little spaces in the floor near the shotty that force you to jump a bit. Nice touch.

Guys, that fan IS jumppad, but that section where it should throw you is temporarily unavailable
Map is great! But...
1) I had some problems with walking throught corridors (itseems they are clipped, but my character was plucking.
2) I know you will, but add some sounds, there it must be the symphony of sounds

workin on tweaks etc. still getting the jp's to look right as well as fixing up a few texture issues and yes the sound pass is coming. im not sure how far to take this... i could get into more fine details but im not sure if that could end up taking something away from the overall impact... hmmm
but yeah, ill keep on workin away and with any luck have this out the door sooner rather than later.

Impressive stuff sir. I love structures and texturing, and whole design overall. Good job, now just put it into D3 engine nad you have fine D3 map

(Imo the map would rock in better engine).
-tbh fans look really 'weak' in comparison to the rest of the map. They have really low LoD and simple design,
-add sounds, when you run the mup without music it's empty and dead world, feels really weird. Especially when you see all those machines and stuff. I would simply thought it should be just feeled with all kind of mechanical sounds,
-other then that I love how does map looks (didn't playtest it with bots).
Last thing, tho you can not like it much

. While it's totally amazing looking map, I would rather see it in sp mode then mp. As I said, it would make really nice D3 environment, but tbh I don't like mp maps with too high LoD or such high detailed texturing. All those details and texturing are too distractive during mp game (well, not talking about high picmip settings), and sometimes during the gameplay you can simply loose the sense of actuall structures of the map. I had same issue with you q2dm1 remake, while it was beautiful, it was hard to play it because of the detail work (which makes map blocky at some point), and distractive texturing. But again, if it's not suppose to be competitive map or anything... Amazing job.

hmmm shadow, not sure how to take ya comment... are you saying my mapping style is bad for q3? my texturing is not that hardcore compared to a huge amount of maps out there... its just a new combination... and the whole picmip thing really makes it a non issue...?

Not to discredit Shadow, I haven't the slightest clue who they are or what they've done but I would ignore their comment regarding the LOD, etc.
As far as I can tell, the map can look like whatever the shit you want it to look like, as long as it flows well and is CLIPPED well, so that players don't get stuck up on half inch wide pipes, etc. If it looks like Tron but flows good, then who cares. And like he said himself, if people don't like looking at details while they play (I think those people are fucked in the head, myself), then crank up the picmip!

. As I said map looks amazing. The issue is it's hard to play it without picmip for me (and I don't like picmip :P). And as mrd said it's really important to clip well map, so it's flow is good. This map looks pretty good about clips, but as i mentioned, your Edge remake was pretty 'blocky'.
I like your maps, you probably should look again at your sky level topic, and my comments there

And which link? I see no d/l link, or did you already remove it? I mean it's not illegal to post a screenshot of a map with those textures, is it? (Even if it was I wouldn't care about that, it would be a bit ridiculous imo.)
Releasing the map and shipping those textures is not an option in the q3w scene though I guess. :/ But I'm sure you can turn this map into something great with other textures as well...

time to finally learn maya. and zbrush! been avoiding it to long tbh. gonna try make my own textures, but im gonna make em in 3d!... well, ill see how it goes. so, its gonna be a while till this is back, but ill post progress here.. kinda my learning 3d for mapping rant ..
