Apparently, Tig from http://lvlworld.com thought about hosting an experimental single player mapping competition.
..::LvL Experimental Single Player Comp: If there is enough interest, ..::LvL will host an Experimental Single Player Comp. There will be no prize except bragging rights and the top maps will all be collected into a single download pack (as well as individual downloads).

If you are interested in entering, get in touch and let me know if you would prefer a 2, 4 or 6 month time frame.
To sign up use ..::lvl's contact form.

Sweet. I've had an idea for an SP map that I've been too lazy to pursue for a while now. Maybe this will give me the budge I need.

So what would be the idea behind a SP map? Would this be something like Sock's castle/maze map?

I believe that's the part for your interpretation. There is a fine line between single player and DeFraG run maps, so it is the mapper's responsibility in making a single player map to make sure it is unique and creative. The gameplay could involve puzzles, obstacles, and other interesting aspects of gameplay. I guess this will be the defining moment for the "Single Player" gametype. Although, MOTEOF is definitely quite a leap forward. Sock set the bar really high.. D:

Sock asked me about hosting a Q3W competition (of a different sort), I was interested so I sent him a list of ideas and concepts. Then he never got back to me. I hope he only got really busy with stuff at work and it's not the Oompa Loompas again threatening to kidnap him and force him to watch midget porn Clockwork Orange style. :paranoid:

How can anyone NOT be interested in midget porn Clockwork Orange style?
As for the contest: Nice idea, but I can't see me finishing any of my maps in the given time (even if it was 6 months, my time table's just too unstable). A real pity. Nevertheless, I'm really interested in the results of that experimental SP map competition.

Interesting.
Could someone point me to the map sock made? I'm interested what he's done.

Wow that looks really impressive. Not sure how it works in game but it definitely tickles my curiosity :)
I haven't got the time to really go into mapping anymore, but it sounds like a fun competition. The fresh approach should bring some original things to the table I reckon.

So many familiar faces and no one cared to inform me about watching midget porn in Clockwork Orange style. I'm truly dissappointed in all of you >:(

That's because I couldn't locate the video file on my HDD - it's just too small... damn you Kubrick's evil porn directing brother!

ad contest: Almost crying here: I was ready to finish my stupid map (it was indeed a VERY experimental one) on time, and then life kicked me against a wall and gave me so much things to finish in real life, that I couldn't complete it until Dec. 3rd. What about another contest exactly like that in the near future? :paranoid:

I'm pretty sure there will be more comps in the future but I think the comp may be run a little different. This one was 'announced' and then 'ended' - nothing in-between or encouraging. There was also no where for the mappers to help each other.

As to the almost finished maps, please finish them and send them in :]

You'll bet I do! ;) Only that without any dead line I might fall back into my old scheme: "That could need some ... *more*, let's wait another century to finally release it. But one day you'll get it, promised. Good to here, that this one isn't going to be the only contest being hosted by lvlworld, thanks Tig!
