At the risk of certain people flaming for no reason, I'll post this here... Try and keep your emotions in the Void, kthx.

This is the first of several new ViDocs I have planned to show various aspects of the technology OverDose uses. I've tried to make it fit in someplace between "Heres all the techno info" and "What the hell is a polygon?" so its not uber detailed, but hey ho this is my first time doing one, so give it a once over and let us know:

ModDB (Medium Quality - Stream)

NOTE: The reason the shadows at time draw in front of the hands is simple, the hands are a test model attached to the screen. That of course won't happen with the correct drawing later.

Looks amazig as always, way better then q4. Damn, I want to get this game into may hands :), honestly it's the only game I'm waiting next to D4, Rage and Diablo III :). I really liked the water on the floor. Only thing which was a little off, it's flames and it's dynamic ligth synchronization. Other then that, great job!

Video looks super and your presentation is quite professional.
Shadowing looks superb, cannot wait for the final result I can make a map for it.
FYI typo on main page that should be fixed.
"Using idTech2 as a base, we are writing our engine from the --G--round up"

Its a little low because you try running the game with 8x AA on in high resolution while rendering every frame to video in real time with FRAPS :p Tends to drop a few frames :p

But no, ingame performance is stuck at 60FPS for me in pretty much all areas with highest quality on everything (and EVERYTHING is tweakable, trust us, no shitty conole-itus here...), and I only have a 2 cored AMD 5000, 2 gig of ram and a GF 295 GTX :(

Looking good o'dium.
Just a tip: try to talk a little slower next time though, it's quite hard to follow you at some points.

At least I didn't say erm every 5 seconds :( Its harder than it looks/sounds, trust me... Next time I think I'll set the tempo alll the way down, sound like I'm on crack or something lol.

The tech is very cool indeed. My only problem with this project is that I don't really like the art style...

slightly off-topc... i read somewhere, a few years ago, that saying uhh or erm every few seconds during a presentation actually helps the audience follow along. it gives the audience a moment to reflect. i just did a quick search for the article, but damned if i can backtrace my mind a couple of years.

Lies.

For proof, see Carmack at work on a presentation. An average of 57.6 "uhmmms" per minute and still nobody has a clue what hes saying :p

Carmack is a god. He can get away with it. Despite his trademark "nhhh's" he's actually a really good speaker. Steve Jobs is also a good speaker but I hate how he is constantly overselling with words like "the world's best and fastest..." etc. I also enjoy watching the various TED presentations, mostly good speakers. A lot can be learned from listening to brilliant people.

lol, a few changes have been made to that scene already, but won't be shown until the new ViDoc is done with PCSS and ambient occlusion demoed.

I love how the player interacts with the shadows, please don't remove it. Just fix the bugs.

The player interacts with the shadows "WRONG" in this video though. The shadows draw through the weapon on the screen because we never fixed the depth there, but thats been sorted since.

But the player will of course interact with the shadows in the level, they will cast on the weapon and the weapon/arms will cast there own shadows onto eachother etc.

Should look nice when you fire a weapon and the muzzle flash lights up, letting the weapon cast its own shadow.
