Rock Band 3 officially announced..

.. yet no details whatsoever were released.
Released this holiday, it will "revolutionize the genre" whatever that means.
Maybe Dhani Harrison (son of George Harrison and big contributor to the Beatles:RockBand game) was on the right path when last year he claimed 'the next rockband would properly teach players how to play instruments'.
Whatever they do, theyd best have legacy support for the current DLC library which is over 1000 songs big

My guess is they'll put some type of string system on the guitar. But whatever it is, it's probably not going to entice me to start playing. Never did like Rock Band/Guitar Hero...

Will never happen. To properly learn to play the guitar, people would actually have to practice. That's something quite different to rocking along with popular songs.

lol idd. I can imagine the whine if they put a real guitar (with metal strings and stuff) as a controller. "I played for 15 minutes and my fingertips hurt like hell, worst product ever."

"Rock Band producers sued for causing callouses on player's fingers"

srsly tho. they upgraded the drums with cymbals, they added vocal harmonies/backing vocals. the next change must be something guitar-related I'm thinking.
it most likely wont be strings, that would take away the casual pickup&play concept of the game like Eraser said.
"revolutionize" will prolly mean more changes to the whole meta of the game rather than actual ingame elements, like with RB1>RB2.
and fully integrated RBN (which is positively awesome btw)

what would i consider "revolutionary"? how about...
the guitar neck will be touch sensitive and similar to a real guitar. no strings, but there will be frets and you can now do chords and play individual notes on a scale, similar to how you would on a real guitar. the neck will be programmable so for beginners the layout is basic and easy to pick up, for advance players it's more like a real guitar. there will be leds in the neck to light up what the player should be hitting next, to help the learning process.
yeah.

The whole term "revolutionize" has been subject to quite a bit of inflation in the gaming industry.
Just like "redefine". Isn't that right, Mr. Hollenshead?

If that were the case I'd probably buy it.
I've played guitar since I was 10 and I never could get into Rock Band/Guitar Hero precisely because I couldn't play it like a real guitar....I fucking sucked at that game....because I wanted to move my hands along the fretboard.

RB has 10 frets nowadays, so thats something
also in TB:RB, they went for more realistic fingersettings. which is cool cause you actually use barres and add/removes majors/minors during chordprogressions.
or at least it simulates it.
but in the end one shouldnt forget it still just a game and not a simulator. you wouldnt discard CoD cause you dont get any physical recoil from firing your M1 either, rite.

I'm pretty sure RB3 comes with more milking.

More frets and lights on the neck seem like a good thing, but how would they display that on the screen so you know what to hit?
You can't expect your average GH/RB players to look down at the neck and still be able to get the timing right - or to not look at the neck at all and still know what they're hitting if they have a lot more frets.

I want a difficulty between hard and expert. Or just make hard more difficult.
0 - 3 difficulty songs = fun & 5 stars on expert.
4 - 6 difficulty songs = boring on hard and too difficult to be fun on expert.
At least for me.

RB3 will be revolutionary if the songlist isn't dominated by shit.

RB now has extra frets which can be used whenever the onscreen rails get a blue background.
5 frets is a problem for many new players to blindly find but gets easy after a bit of practice, more frets wont make much of a difference.
re: setlist, if they keep the backwards compatibility in place it will have the current 1000+ songs available at launch. theres bound to be something in there for everyone.

That's how it was for me until one day I got better and could play them... you just have to WANT IT. do you WANT IT????
